Original Verve Records very early 1st East Coast pressing of “The Velvet Underground & Nico” with the uncensored 1st State “Torso” cover containing a large upside down image of the actor Eric Emerson projected on the wall behind the band, taken during Andy Warhol’s Plastic Inevitable Show event, on the back. Having recently been arrested for drug possession and desperate for money, Emerson threatened to sue over this unauthorized use of his image, unless he was paid. Rather than complying, MGM recalled copies of the album and halted its distribution until Emerson's image could be airbrushed from the photo on the subsequent pressings. The magnificent withdrawn 1st State “Torso” cover of this copy remains in its original factory shrink wrap and contains an unpeeled iconic Andy Warhol’s art banana sticker. Original 1st print blue / silver Verve Records 1¼” pressing ring misprint labels with the V-5008 Mono catalog number indicate the timing for the “Black Angel’s Death Song” track as 3:10 as opposed to the correct one of 3:01. Very early 1st Mono mix pressing vinyl with the block-looking “S” symbol, indicating the very early pressing by MGM Records manufacturing division, Bloomfield, New Jersey. The full matrix numbers are as a follows: V5008 Side1 MG558 Rev Block-looking "S" / V5008 Side2 MG559 8. The album comes with an original "The Jazz of America is on Verve / The Wit of America is on Verve" inner sleeve with red text.

One of the most beautiful 1st State Mono "Torso" covers that we've ever seen. It remains in its original fully intact factory shrink wrap which has preserved it in a magnificent Near Mint condition with a rigid impeccable spine. Just like the cover, the original Verve Records inner sleeve is in Near Mint condition and doesn't have any splits or tears, only having some age discoloration. I grade the vinyl visually as Very Good Plus. It retains its glossy factory lacquer but has some very light non-feelable marks and hairlines along with some light scuffs from the original inner sleeve. The labels are in a clean Excellent condition, scuff- and wear-free, only having a few very light spindle marks that can be seen under a strong light source. The audio of the vinyl is graded as Excellent Minus. It plays great only having some very light occasional static that most likely could get reduced or go away completely if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
