This copy with the cover still remaining in the original factory shrink wrap is one of the best ones I’ve ever seen. Very early pressing that could be dated very close to the release date of March 12, 1967. Monaural pressing with the 1st State, so-called “Torso”, gatefold cover with an unpeeled Andy Warhol’s banana sticker and a fully visible flipped image of the actor Eric Emerson on the back. Incredibly rare 1st run West Coast blue and silver misprint labels that come across much rarer than the East Coast copies. Large 2.75” deep groove pressing ring present only on the copies pressed by H.V. Waddell in Burbank, CA, just like the two timing misprints, also unique to this pressing, mistakenly indicating 2:01 for “I’ll Be Your Mirror” and 3:01 for “Black Angel’s Death Song”. Foreseeing the question frequently asked by collectors, I can confirm that this is one of the rarest copies where the volume level suddenly goes up right after Lou Reed sings "Comes in bells, your servant, don't forsake him..." in the "Venus in Furs" track. This mysterious circumstance has several interpretations with one of them being an assumption that someone in the recording studio accidentally moved the master volume knob during the mastering session. 1st pressing matrix numbers: V-5008-S-1 MG-558-Rev / V-5008-S-2 MG-559. The album comes with an original “The Jazz of America is on Verve / The Wit of America is on Verve” paper inner sleeve. ★ I grade the cover as Near Mint Minus. It’s in outstanding condition and is very clean only having a few light creases along the spine and a light bumping to the bottom left-hand corner on the back. The cover doesn’t have any splits, writing, soiling, ring wear or scuffs. The factory shrink wrap is fully intact and contains the original breathe holes. The vinyl is graded visually as strong Very Good Plus (I’m sure that some sellers would grade it as Excellent Minus). It preserves its beautiful factory gloss and only has a few very light surface non-feelable hairlines and scuffs, most likely from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint condition. The labels are graded as Excellent, almost Near Mint Minus as they’re very clean and only have several light spindle marks seen under a strong light source. The vinyl sounds great with a crisp soft analog Monophonic sound with some very light occasional background noise during the quiet passages, which is most likely just static and will get reduce or go away completely if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
