Description

THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'/'ASK ME WHY'

UK 1963 1st PRESSING 45

This earliest possible copy dates from day of release in January 1963 & is on the red & silver Parlophone label: 45-R4983

Both bear the 'Dick James Music Co. Ltd' publishing credit & 'Made in Gt. Britain' text.

An 'MT' purchase tax code is visible in the centre of the 'Ask My Why' label

'MPT' codes are stamped in both run-outs.

This disc is housed within its correct 'beach-striped' Parlophone company cover.

Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17217-1N & 7XCE 17218-1N

Stamper codes: 1/G & 1/G

These earliest possible 'mother'/stamper codes prove this disc to be one of the first few hundred copies ever pressed.

CONDITION

Labels: EXCELLENT -

Both labels are bright and unfaded. The only significant flaw is a faint 'ghost' of a sticker on the 'Please, Please Me' label. There is also some light wear to each centre hole, but no writing or missing paper anywhere.

Visual: VERY GOOD

Both playing surfaces are clean & glossy with no surface marks or wear at all to either side. The only evidence of wear is some visible 'whitening' to the grooves on both sides. This leads me to believe that the surfaces may have been 'polished' at some point. However, both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable with no dishing or warping.

Play: FAIR/GOOD

As the visual suggests, this copy has been played many times on not such good quality equipment and there is considerable groove wear distortion throughout both sides. However, there are no jumps, repeats or any other major faults are present anywhere.

Cover

EXCELLENT

Vivid & vibrant with just a touch of light storagewear but no writing, seam splits or tears anywhere.
