Description

THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'/'ASK ME WHY'

1963 UK *DEMONSTRATION* 45

This extremely rare disc is a 100% genuine DEMONSTRATION 45 which pre-dates slightly its official January 1963 release date. These specially pressed discs were distributed in a very limited quantity (a few hundred only) to DJs and press persons only. Very few genuine examples survive today, especially from this early period

This example bears the correct 'oversize' labels which cover the serrated rim of the disc, with a large red 'A' on the 'Please, Please Me' label: 45-R 4983

Both labels also carry the wording 'DEMONSTRATION RECORD - NOT FOR SALE' and 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd..' rim texts.

An 'MT' purchase tax code is stamped around the centre of the 'Ask My Why' label with 'MPT' stamped in both run-outs.

Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17217-1N & 7XCE 17218-1N

Stamper codes: 2/O & 2/GG

The disc is housed within an original EMI promotional 'Top Pop' sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: VERY GOOD +

A bright & clean set where the only significant blemishes are a small stain on each side where a sticker once stood and a small area of rubbing below the 'B' side centre hole. Nowhere is there any writing or missing paper.

Visual: VERY GOOD +

Both playing surfaces are very clean and retain much of their original deep-gloss shines. Careful inspection in strong daylight shows up numerous wispy hairlines and one or two tiny scuffs consistent with frequent turntable contact, but certainly nothing deep or heavy. Close examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals no further significant blemishes or wear and both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Play: VERY GOOD +

Always a great sounding 45 with a much drier and punchier mix than that found on the album. Both sides of this copy play extremely well with just a hint of play-wear but still retain solid, deep bass but no overall significant deterioration to the sound quality overall. Both songs are also free from any clicks, pops, jumps or repeats.

Cover

EXCELLENT

Clean & bright with slight storage wrinkling and a tiny 5mm tear to one upper edge but no writing or seam splits.
