Description

An original red & plum copy of Zep II from Xmas-1971. Matrix A6/B4. The Red & Plum design was discontinued around this time - so this is, in effect, one of the last copies available before the switch. The vinyl comes housed in an original E J Day cover - darker than the covers from a year earlier. Also included is a 'plastic bag warning' inner sleeve - similar to the ones from 1970.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side. However, there are two semi-feelable marks which do sound [detail below]. The vinyl surfaces are like mirrors - very impressive. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations per side. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. The red & plum copies do sound fantastic...easy to see why folk insist on them. By and large a nice clean rendition - but not in all areas. I detected a bit of static in the quieter moments of 'Bring It On Home' [but, remember, this is a super fussy track]. .And then a bit of static here and there in the drum solo 'Moby Dick'. The marks mentioned above causes 4 clicks/pops in the 1st section of WIAWSNB and then again in the mid-section. Providing you can handle the issues as detailed - the rest of the LP will thoroughly impress.
Cover (Ex-) So so difficult to find these original Zep II covers in decent condition. In my opinion this example is looking very fine indeed - well above the usual sort of preservation that is typically witnessed. It's a lovely clean and unworn front of cover. Has mostly avoided the usual ageing process - just the slightest grubbiness right at the spine edge. The rear is looking superb - it nearly always is creased and worn significantly. But, here, its avoided most of that and just exhibits a touch of grubbiness up against that spine edge. The interior looks very nice - there's just some foxing observable along the top edge of the right panel. Edge wear is pretty minor for a ZepII and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is in above average condition with just light wear. The P's in Zeppelin are just slightly worn - but all other text is still legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Lightly aged. A side split has been taped up.
