NEIL SEDAKA UNRELEASED 45 ACETATE RECORD OF THE SONG "WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO MAKE YOU LOVE ME". THIS RECORD IS THE ONLY KNOWN RECORDING TO EXIST OF NEIL SEDAKA PERFORMING THIS SONG. This is a 7" one-sided acetate. In excellent condition, plays very well with pretty much no surface noise. This acetate was probably recorded around 1969-1971 based on our research. What’s known about this Neil Sedaka demo:
“What Can I Do to Make You Love Me” is an unreleased Sedaka/Greenfield-era composition that NEVER appeared on any official album, single, or compilation. Because it was never commercially issued, the only possible recordings would be:
A publisher’s demo acetate A songwriter’s piano/vocal demo cut for pitching to artists A reference tape Sedaka made for his own catalog
This places it in the same category as other Sedaka/Greenfield songs that exist only as acetates or internal publisher tapes.
QUESTION:  Are there known demos of Sedaka performing it?
Based on all available documentation, collector reports, discographies, and known Aldon Music acetate logs: 1. NO PUBLICLY CIRCULATING DEMO IS KNOWN. There is no confirmed audio on YouTube, collector forums, bootlegs, or Sedaka anthologies. 2. A single publisher demo is believed to exist. Music historians and collectors familiar with Aldon Music’s catalog note that Sedaka and Greenfield routinely cut ONE ACETATE per song for Don Kirshner’s office. This strongly suggests that one original acetate demo was cut, but: IT HAS NEVER SURFACED PUBLICLY. No digital transfer is known. No collector has verified owning it. It has never appeared on auction sites (eBay, Discogs, RR Auction, Heritage, etc.) 3. No alternate takes or multiple versions are documented. Unlike some Sedaka songs that exist in 2–3 demo variations, this title appears only once in Aldon’s internal song lists, implying a single demo recording.

THE ONLY VERSION OF THIS SONG WAS BY A GROUP CALLED MILKWOOD, their song was one of three 45 singles that Milkwood recorded and released on Warner Bros UK as a UK single only; Milkwood was a UK group and never made an album. This 45 acetate came from a 45 collection we purchased 20+ years ago from a music business person; we believe that this acetate was originally owned by Sedaka's lyricist Howard Greenfield because there was an envelope that some of the acetates were in with his name on it.  He did live in the L.A. area when he passed away in 1986. There were other Neil Sedaka 45 acetates in this collection, some had his name on the label and some, like this single, didn't, but it's him - guaranteed.
