Elvis Presley SPEEDWAY MONO LPM 3989 Ultra Rare! Yep, this is it. The truly rarest of Elvis's commercially issued MONO lps, the legendary SPEEDWAY album. What makes it so rare? In 1967, monaural albums were being phased out. By 1968, mono was virtually extinct. But this album was for some reason recorded and released in MONO, very probably to service AM radio stations that still played mono over the airwaves. It's my understanding that unless you special ordered a Mono lp in 1968, they were not stocked in the stores. Translation? For the million plus copies of this lp sold in STEREO, only a few hundred now exist in mono. If that many! Current price guides show this as being valued at $3,000 to 5,000. Supply and Demand rule the true value. There are virtually NO copies of original USA pressings on the market, and Elvis is one of the most collected artists of all time.
My husband purchased this album for me in 1968 for my 25th birthday. I finally decided to sell it. He surprised me again in August 1974 and took me to see Elvis perform in Las Vegas. This album is the original mono made in America. Condition---Cover has some shelf wear, seams have invisible tape. No stickers, writing creases or musty smell. The record has the first matrix numbers 1S. No chips, cracks, stickers or warping. There are some scratches. SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY.
