Description
Artist: ELVIS PRESLEY
Title: “Clambake”
Label: RCA VICTOR. Black label with white dog, silver text. Very scarce MONAURAL pressing on medium weight vinyl, with deep groove.
Catalog number is LPM-3989. Matrix numbers in the runout area are stamped A1/1S on both sides, identifying this as one of the first 500 of this type produced.
Note: A very rare LP, considered one of the holy grails of Elvis collecting. Produced at the time when monaural LPs were close to being phased-out entirely. First copy I have seen in 30+ years of collecting.
Date: 1968.
Condition:
DISC: Vinyl displays 100% of original gloss, has been played a small number of times. Unfortunately the original owner handled it somewhat carelessly, so there are several long light hairline scuff/scratches on both sides. Most are not audible, but there are several places with audible light clicks for a few turns that are moderately distracting. No pops or skips, and most of the album plays beautifully. But because of the presence of tics, I must grade it at approximately VG to VG+. Labels are clean except for a scratch line on Side 1 at approximately the 9 o’clock position. Fidelity is excellent, and overall I consider this to be a fine playing copy. As with all my records, your satisfaction is fully guaranteed.
Overall a very decent copy, quite suitable for most collections given the rarity of this LP in mono.
JACKET: (REVISED) Jacket is VG+ . The front artwork is reasonably clean, with minor ring wear beginning to show at the bottom center. The photo of Elvis at the top left has a 3-inch diagonal scratch that does not cut through to the gray cardboard, and can only be seen when the jacket is turned at a specific angle. There are no seam splits. The top seam has a bit of bunching near the top center, visible in the scan, which appears to have occurred in the manufacturing process, nothing serious. The bottom seam has a very small dent in one place, only apparent when you turn the album up and look at the seam head-on, or look at it from the reverse. The spine is intact except for approximately 6 very slight cracks at various isolated places up and down the spine, again nothing serious. Overall I would say that the seams and spine are very nice. Corners are reasonably nice, with very slight wear at the tips.
The reverse of the jacket displays a bit of minor ring wear at the top center. Unfortunately, the overall appearance of the jacket reverse is marred by perhaps a dozen scratch marks – some light, and some heavier - that collectively detract from the appearance. Most are surface scratches and do not cut through to the gray cardboard, but one of them does cut through and could be considered a small gouge, at a position slightly to the left of center, under the word “Phillip”. Otherwise it is a nice, presentable reverse. It has no writing, stickers, or other problems.
Included is the original RCA blue “Elvis” inner sleeve promoting other albums in the Elvis LP and “Stereo 8” catalogs, in excellent condition.
