Back in 1974 the GENIUS TONY DE FRIES (bet you never expected to read that). But he is a GENIUS. To managing, an "on the rise", rock star. Tony Deries very cleverly persuaded RCA to spend (WHAT WAS BACK IN 1974) a MASSIVE UNPRECEDENTED amount of money $400,000. 

On promoting David Bowie`s new LP called Diamond Dogs. Not only that, Tony Defries had a real, (LESS IS MORE), stroke of GENIUS. And it worked ! That was that he stipulated there was to be NO PREVIEW LPS or UK or USA promo LPS of Diamond Dogs AT ALL. His plan was to keep the critics hungry for the music and create a buying frenzy.....

That massive amount of money for the promotion was spent on huge billboards and posters ALL OVER THE USA , but the lions share of it was spent on the worlds 

first TV commercials to ever promote a rock LP. So if you have ever wondered why you never see a UK or USA ORIGINAL 1974 DIAMOND DOGS promo LP there is your answer . Such a thing does not exist.

BUT THIS CERTAINLY DOES !!!

When you are into music at the level that we all are. And im talking directly to you! What I mean is the people not reading this are not like us. They just like music.We are real music BOWIE HEADS !  AND WE LOVE IT. SO MUCH THAT IT HAS TAKEN OVER A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF OUR LIVES....

When we are not listening to it. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT IT.

OR THINKING ABOUT IT . WHO AMONG YOU WOULD NOT AGREE WITH THAT ?????Isnt it great when your in the pub talking about this stuff "what`s your favourite LP ?" etc Dont we all love that ? A question I get asked a lot is Who is your favourite guitarist . YOU ALL KNOW WHO THAT IS. 

ITS DAVID BOWIE.AND I WILL TELL YOU WHY.....

Did you ever notice that DAVID BOWIE is the lead guitarist on this LP .And to this day, it is the only LP that credits him as LEAD GUITARIST ! I think just like LOU REED, he is a massively underestimated guitarist .  

Imagine having THE GREAT Mick Ronson at your fingertips and saying "Ya know what, sod it, ill do it myself". THATS HOW GOOD A GUITARIST DAVID BOWIE IS !!!!! Already a competant accoustic guitarist David Bowie PRACTISED TO THE HILT.

Bowie put in 2 hours a day just on the guitar as he rehearsed for these Diamond Dogs recording sessions. Then put in another 7 hours a day in the studio.It was the tensest time ever to work with Bowie in his entire studio career. Ava Cherry said " if you were talking it would be nothing for Bowie TO GO NUTS.

"GET OUT IM WORKING"

Mike Garson said "we all had to tread carefully , it 

was`nt the best time in the studio...." BUT LOOK WHAT BOWIE PRODUCED!!!

I think Mike Garson and dear old Ava should toughen up. And shut up ! 

And REALISE.....YOUR WORKING WITH A GENIUS. GENIUS `s TEND TO BE A LITTLE BIT NUTTY ! SO SHUT UP AND TAKE NOTE OF WHY YOU WERE BOTH PUT ON EARTH !!!!!IT WAS TO WORK WITH BOWIE. SO PIPE DOWN!!!

I think Bowie wanted to put his own personal stamp on this LP and create his OWN SOUND . HE CERTAINLY ACHIEVED THAT . 

I love that quote of Bowie`s "All the best music in the world is either depressing or aggressive". I for one definitely agree with that. Look no further than the Beatles YESTERDAY (the most covered song in history) for proof of that. This LP is both depressing AND aggressive so its RIGHT UP MY STREET ! My favourite single of all time comes from this LP and its Diamond Dogs, revisit that baby . Pay close attention to Bowie`s guitar, FASTFINGERS is not the word, his fingers must have been a blur on that track. And the BRILLIANTLY depressing WE ARE THE DEAD,

WHAT A SONG !!!(its in my top 5). And one of the only songs David has never performed live...That`s sad cos now he never will. But my favourite Bowie song of them all is on here, Sweet thing. (this song is aggressive AND depressing).

What an LP ....And WHAT A PRESSING OF AN LP.

ONE OF THE FIRST! FIRST! FIRST! FIRST! FIRST ! THEY EVER PRESSED.

This THICK SLAB of heavy wax is a real beauty. The glossy white labels are in outstanding condition . The record has a few wispy hairlines and there is an unsightly mark on the last track on side 1 but I am happy to say it is simply cosmetic. 

IT HAS NO BARING ON THE PLAYING OF THIS RECORD WHATSOEVER. NOT A SOUND. NOTHING AT ALL. This LP plays entirely without skipping jumping 

or sticking. There is tiny amounts of static sound if you try your hardest to find it.But sit back ,play the LP ,LOUD and its simply SUPERB ! I just test played it, god my dads favourite BOWIE song is on here is on here.....He was forever yelling at me TURN THAT SHIT OFF .... But when I played "When you rock n roll with me" just like the rest of us Dad crumbled......

BOWIE. 

DONE IT AGAIN. This LP plays a good 9 out of 10 .

UK TEST PRESSINGS ARE SO RARE. THEY NEVER APPEAR FOR SALE BECAUSE THEY ARE SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLY RARE ONLY A HANDFUL ARE EVER PRESSED SO.THE HARDEST OF THE HARD BOWIE COLLECTORS TREASURE THEM ABOVE MOST OTHER THINGS....

It is easier to replace a German Roundcover or a Dress cover

or a Philips LP than it is to get one of these. I WILL CRY WHEN THIS GOES !

Test pressings are made of a different shellac lacquer vinyl mix than that used for stock copies. They are the record industries quality control to give an insight into what the new LP is sounding like when the music is recorded to vinyl. It is the stage in the process directly following the mastering lathes recording the LP to acetate lacquer. The master tape recording is played directly through a mastering lathe. The lathe LITERALLY CUTS (WITH A CUTTING TOOL) THE MUSIC INTO ANALOUGE WIGGLES ON THE ACETATE LACQUER THE NEEDLE PLAYED THROUGH THOSE WIGGLES JUST LIKE ON A RECORD AND THE SOUND IS PRODUCED.

THIS TEST PRESSING IS THE VERY NEXT STAGE WHEN THE METAL RECORD STAMPERS LITERALLY PRESS THE MUSIC INTO THE TEST PRESSING SHELLAC VINYL. SO THESE ARE THE VERY VERY VERY FIRST VINYL RECORDS THAT ARE PRESSED IN THE TRADITIONAL MANNER. 

NO PRESSING OF VINYL COMES BEFORE THIS STAGE !!!NONE !!!!

In a very similar way to an acetate they are also made of more concentrated blend of Shellac to the normal shop vinyl. So they actually sound better. They are very costly to produce So RARE is just not enough words to describe how hard to find GENUINE FIRST ORIGINAL TEST PRESSINGS . THEY ARE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO LOCATE.

So an opportunity to grab one , like this opportunity is EXCRUCIATINGLY RARE!!!

And withthe knowledge gained over my lifetime of years as a fan. I HAVE TRULY STUDIED THE STUFF.That was all started by my chick when I was 13. She`s now my wife. I dreamed of writing a book about the David Bowie LPs years ago but things got in the way.....money. Family.Time. And life, just never permitted. I simply say it as I see it.It has been very humbling for me, also a very pleasant surprise for me to truly touch so many of you this way...that you would go to the trouble, to put pen to paper so to speak with the main message beingyou enjoy reading what I have to say....I really am touched.
