Description
This is the original artwork (circa 1976) used for the design of the Dark Horse record label created for ex Beatle George Harrison. It was originally a design on a biscuit tin which George found on one of his trips to India. The idea of the seven headed horse impressed him and this image formed the basis of the label idea.
This item was first converted into a photographic format from the tin by Horst Kolo. It was then passed to Jack Katz, a graphic designer and artist who commissioned Kolo. Katz later changed his name to Arvinash when he became a follower of the Indian guru Bagwan Ravinesh. Jack Katz applied touches of gouache to the photo image to create what went onto to millions of vinyl records. I had all this info confirmed by e-mail from Horst Kolo.
The sighted design of the circular horse image has a diameter of 22.5cm and the whole photo image is 39cm across, pasted onto a larger card. The item was framed when I acquired it but the glass was cracked so I dismantled it. The backboard has a Dark Horse slip pasted onto it and the item came from a previous employee of the label.
It will be sent flat packed in stiff cardboard with the backboard for the new owner who will probably want to have it reframed. Postage within the UK will be £6.50 special delivery. Overseas will be £15 insured airmail.
