NOTHING NOW BUT THE RECORDINGS by William S, Burrough. A vinyl TEST PRESSING from INDUSTRIAL RECORDS.
From the personal Industrial Records collection of Genesis Breyer P-Orridge comes this test pressing. One of only 3 of the original test pressing for this ground breaking album of spoken word tape recorder and cut-up experiments. This was the first time W. S. Burroughs had agreed to release an album dedicated to the Beat Hotel and later experiments with cut-ups of literature and audio sources. For decades everyone into Burroughs read about the Cut-Up tape recorder experiments especially but nobody but the original Beats and their close circle of friends had ever heard them. It took Genesis seven years to persuade Burroughs to collaborate on this project. Sleazy and Genesis flew to “The Bunker” in New York City’s Bowery where they found dozens of amazing cassettes in shoe boxes! Then on to Lawrence, Kansas to listen to and catalog every single tape recording known to exist of the Cut-Ups. They listed every single edit with a rough verbal description. Next James Grauerholz joined to form a trio editorial committee. Eventually this collection of (at that time) never before heard experimental recordings that are still radical, amazing and modern was assembled. 23 minutes per side approximately.
This item is pressed directly from the plates and has only been played once. It is Genesis P-Orridge’s personal test pressing As the cover had not yet been designed by Sleazy, it is in an Original Throbbing Gritsle “SECOND ANNUAL REPORT” sleeve cover. White with the hand applied stickers. The TG information is scribbled through by Genesis and the actual title is hand written on. All the writing and additional “graffiti” are by Genesis P-Orridge who often doodled on test pressings. The actual record has generic TP labels on the A side, which has been signed by Genesis Breyer P-Orridge with the actual contents written on by hand by G B P-O, B side having an actual Industrial Records center label Extremely rare.
Only three copies of this test pressing were made and this is from the personal archives of Genesis Breyer P-Orridge.
