Those familiar with Van Morrison’s ever mercurial muse could hardly have been surprised when he turned up on the artistically centered, avant-country label Lost Highway to pay tribute to a era-spanning slate of country icons on the Nashville imprint's ‘06 collection, Pay the Devil. But while the ensuing years were dominated by several rich anthologies of Morrison’s work, he’s returned here to masterfully show his love of country was no passing fancy. As the title suggests, Morrison’s self-produced approach to the genre is both musically and emotionally elemental, a no frills approach that fits him like a well-worn pair of Tony Llamas. Indeed, even as he’s addressing matters of musical style and substance in an unusually introspective way on "That’s Entertainment" and "Soul," the veteran’s singing here is so natural and deceptively effortless as to disguise how forcefully Morrison has immersed himself in the country mold – or, more to the point, remade it lovingly in his own image, also marking the first time in several years he’s penned all the songs on one of his albums. Whether offering a little tutelage about the vagaries of fate on "School of Hard Knocks," taking W.C. Handy’s "St. Louis Blues" as the starting point for the slow-burning, Hammond B3-seeped country blues lament "Don’t Go to Nightclubs Anymore," or preaching the backroads Zen gospel of the title track and Banjo-seasoned elegy "Song of Home," Morrison’s warm, world-weary voice connects with themes that are as familiar as sunshine – and every bit as fundamentally complicated.Product Description
On April 1st, Lost Highway will proudly release Keep It Simple, the new album from Van Morrison. Keep It Simple is Morrison's first album of new material since 2005, and the first in several years in which he composed all 11 songs specifically for one album. In the interim the legendary artist had a year that may be unprecedented for any living artist, having released three separate collections of his hits, with the latest, Still On Top entering the UK charts at #2 and selling platinum, proving the ongoing appetite for his unrivalled work.
His music has always incorporated the widely varied influences he heard and absorbed since his childhood days on the streets of Belfast- long before the bands of his youth and his initial breakthrough with the band he started early on- called "Them."
On Keep It Simple, Morrison honors all those varied influences - Ulster-Scots Celtic, Jazz, Folk, Blues, Country, Soul and Gospel - and an added surprise of a mighty Ukelele -most times melding them all together at once creating his unmistakable signature sound.
In some of these songs Morrison addresses the propaganda of the myth perpetrating rock music world. There is a definite theme that recurs throughout the album, especially in the title track.
In keeping with that idea, Keep It Simple does not boast the big horns or expected string arrangements of some of Morrison's previous work. What it does feature are gorgeous songs rich with emotion, depth and beauty.
The LP edition boasts 3 additional tracks recorded live in 2008: "Blue And Green", "Little Village", "And The Healing Has Begun".

Pay The Devil is a new country set from the legendary Van Morrison. It is comprised of 14 tracks; three of these are originals and 11 are covers of some of Morrison's favorite classic country songs, including "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Things Have Gone To Pieces" and "Big Blue Diamonds." In 1962, Ray Charles, one of Morrison's biggest influences recorded the monumental Modern Sounds In Country & Western Music. At the time the genre jump seemed risky, but Charles proved that a great artist could make it work if he worked with great songs. Morrison, who has successfully recorded jazz, rock, R&B, blues, Celtic, skiffle and more, proves that theory to be valid. His distinctive voice melds seamlessly with these classics written by songwriting masters such as Hank Williams, Webb Pierce, Merle Kilgore, Rodney Crowell and Leon Payne.Track Listings

1968's "Astral Weeks" remains not only Morrison's masterpiece, but one of the greatest records ever made. A haunting, deeply personal collection of impressionistic folk styled epics recorded by an all star jazz backing unit, its poetic complexity earned critical raves but made only a minimal commercial impact.
"There was no precedent for it in Van Morrison's previous vocal and songwriting success: the bright, rolling pop of his 1967 Top Ten hit, "Brown Eyed Girl"; his earlier spell as the leader of Irish R&B punks Them and writer of the garage-rock standard "Gloria." And Morrison — a notoriously private man for whom singing and songwriting have long been a form of emotional armor as well as release — never sounded as warm and ecstatic, more sensual and vulnerable, as he did on Astral Weeks." -
"Once the needle drops, it's as if the music is being piped in from the heavens. Vocals are lifelike, levels non-fatiguing, and instruments richly detailed." - Bob Gendron, The Absolute Sound, April/May 2009, Issue 192

It's unusual for a decade-defining record to come out in that decade's first year, but that was clearly the case with "Moondance". While it would have been one of the finest albums of any decade, it clearly marked a turning point both for Van Morrison and for rock as a whole. Coming after 1968's expansive, acoustic, jazz-inflected "Astral Weeks", "Moondance" marks a complete about-face; instead of looking inward to the depths of his soul, Van turned his gaze towards sunnier climes, offering up a seamless disc of tightly composed and arranged tunes brimming with warmth and energy.
Here the R&B influence that had been part of Morrison's toolkit since his days fronting them truly came to the fore at last. "Crazy Love", "Caravan", and "Brand New Day" could have been covered by any great soul singer, even as they redefined "soul" through the filter of Morrison's eclectic sensibilities. An openhearted record full of truly inspirational moments, "Moondance" is Van at the absolute top of his game, setting the pace for everyone else to follow. Nearly every song here is a stone-cold classic, and "Moondance" has become embedded in the collective pop consciousness as one of the most important touchstones of its time.
"That was the type of band I dig," Morrison said of the Moondance sessions. "Two horns and a rhythm section — they're the type of bands that I like best." Morrison took that soul-band lineup and blended it with jazz, blues, poetry and vivid memories of his Irish childhood, until songs such as the title track, "And It Stoned Me" and "Caravan" felt like a lucid dream. On the sprightly "Everyone," Morrison turns the title over and over in his mouth, not scatting so much as searching for the sound of magic. One song, "Into the Mystic," serves as an apt summary: To listen to the album is to get your passport stamped for Morrison's world of ecstatic visions." - rollingstone

"'Into the Mystic' is one of Morrison's warmest ballads, an Otis Redding-style reverie with acoustic guitar and horns. The lyrics are truly mysterious: "People say, 'What does this mean?' said Morrison. 'A lot of times I have no idea what I mean. That's what I like about rock & roll — the concept. Like Little Richard — what does he mean? You can't take him apart; that's rock & roll to me.'" - Rolling Stone

Van Morrison & Joey DeFrancesco You're Driving Me Crazy 2LP SET
Collaborative Album On Vinyl LP!
Van Morrison Joins Forces with Jazz Organ Virtuoso Joey DeFrancesco on You're Driving Me Crazy
Morrison's 39th Studio Collection Showcases Electrifying Musical Collaborations, Fresh Interpretations of Blues/Jazz Standards and Deep Cuts from Van's Songbook
You're Driving Me Crazy is a musical collaboration of Van Morrison with Hammond organ virtuoso and trumpet master Joey DeFrancesco.
A new milestone in Van Morrison's ever-expanding catalog of essential recordings, You're Driving Me Crazy finds the iconic Irish singer-songwriter-performer exploring a variety of jazz and blues standards and classics ("Miss Otis Regrets," "The Things I Used to Do," "Every Day I Have the Blues") alongside fresh interpretations of songs from Van's own catalog ("Have I Told You Lately," "The Way Young Lovers Do," "Magic Time").
You're Driving Me Crazy finds Morrison collaborating in the studio with DeFrancesco and his band--including Dan Wilson (guitar), Michael Ode (drums) and Troy Roberts (tenor saxophone). DeFrancesco, who signed his first deal with Columbia Records at the age of 16, has performed with Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, Grover Washington, Jr. and many more while leading his own band, and is responsible for bringing the classic Hammond organ sound back to the world of jazz in the late 1980s.
The world of jazz has provided a vital ongoing influence on the music of Van Morrison, whose acclaimed 1968 studio masterpiece, Astral Weeks, showcased jazz musicians Connie Kay, Jay Berliner, and Richard Davis. Inspired by the spontaneity, soul and sound of jazz, Morrison has performed on stage and/or in the studio with a variety of jazz and blues musicians including John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Mose Allison, Bobby Bland, Solomon Burke, Jeff Beck, Georgie Fame, Robbie Robertson, Freddie Hubbard, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Maceo Parker, Candy Dulfer and others.
Joey DeFrancesco is a prolific American jazz organist, trumpeter, and vocalist and Grammy-nominee who signed his first record deal (with Columbia Records) at the age of 16 and has gone on to release more than 30 albums. He has performed on stage and in the studio with a wide variety of artists including Miles Davis, Jimmy Smith, Ray Charles, Bette Midler, David Sanborn, Arturo Sandoval, Larry Coryell, Frank Wess, John McLaughlin, Danny Gatton, Elvin Jones, and many more. DeFrancesco is a nine-time winner of the Down Beat Critics Poll (organ) and has won the Down Beat Readers Poll every year since 2005. He has won a number of JazzTimes Awards and is an inaugural member of the Hammond Hall of Fame.

THEM WITH VAN MORRISON THEM AGAIN LIMITED EDITION VINYL LP 2016 180-gram vinyl reissue
The classic album featuring Van Morrison, original U.K. art and track listing!
Includes "It's All Over Now," "Baby Blue" and "I Got A Woman"
Them Again was Them's second, and, for all intents and purposes, last full album, writes Bruce Eder for AllMusic.
"To this day, nobody knows who played on the album, other than Van Morrison and bassist Alan Henderson, though it is probable that Jimmy Page was seldom very far away when Them was recording. The 16 songs here are a little less focused than the first LP. The material was cut under siege conditions, with a constantly shifting lineup and a grueling tour schedule; essentially, there was no 'group' to provide focus to the sound, only Morrison's voice, so the material bounces from a surprisingly restrained 'I Put a Spell on You' to the garage-punkoid 'I Can Only Give You Everything.' Folk-rock rears its head not only on the moody cover of Dylan's 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' but also the Morrison-authored 'My Lonely Sad Eyes,' but the main thrust is soul, which Morrison oozes everywhere ... his is a voice that could easily have knocked Mick Jagger or Eric Burdon off their respective perches." — AllMusic

BLOWIN YOUR MIND! -
THESE ORIGINAL EUROPEAN LIMITED EDITION PRESSING NOW OUT OF PRINT & BECOMING TREMENDOUSLY RARE. Which includes the 49th best song in Rock N Roll history Morrison's Classic Brown Eyed Girl
After a young Van Morrison left his Belfast R&B-pop band Them following a couple of U.K. hits in "Gloria" and "Here Comes the Night," American producer-songwriter Bert Berns brought him to New York for 48 hours in early 1967 to record the tracks that would become BLOWIN’ YOUR MIND.
Berns died shortly thereafter, but the tracks he cut included the song that launched Morrison's solo career--the U.S. top 10 hit "Brown Eyed Girl." - voted the 49th Best Single of All-Time.
Most of these songs have been released on early Morrison compilations, including some on this same label. Originally produced by Epic/distributed by Sony Music on Bang Records in 1968 - this is a repressed version in its original format with great psychedelic artwork on the cover.
Contains some youthful vocal magic on the soul standard "He Ain't Give You None," the stark and graphic "TB Sheets," and the strange and wonderful "Goodbye Baby (Baby Goodbye)."
This was undoubtedly Morrison's first period of transition. After the release of BLOWIN’ YOUR MIND! he moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to work on his next album, th eASTRAL WEEKS landmark.
Tracks include: Brown Eyed Girl - He Ain’t Give You None - T.B. Sheets - Spanish Rose - Goodbye Baby - Ro Ro Rosey - Who Drove The Red Sports Card and Midnight Special.

Van Morrison The Complete New York Sessions 1967 3LP LIMITED EDITION RARE Box Set
Triple LP Box Set! Essential for All True Van Morrison Fans! Includes 4-Page Booklet! Classic Material from the Belfast Cowboy!
Known as "Van the Man" to his fans, Morrison started his professional career when, as a teenager in the late 1950s, he played a variety of instruments including guitar, harmonica, keyboards and saxophone for various Irish showbands covering the popular hits of the day. He rose to prominence in the mid-1960s as the lead singer of the Northern Irish R&B band Them, with whom he recorded the garage band classic "Gloria". His solo career began under the pop-hit oriented guidance of Bert Berns.
Though the relationship was short and volatile, Van Morrison's post-Them tenure with Bert Berns' Bang Records produced what probably remains his most well known tune in "Brown Eyed Girl" as well as one of his heaviest and headiest compositions, "T.B. Sheets". It also produced a "jamming session" that is now notorious and legendary, full of that well documented Van vitriol. All of that and more classic material from the Belfast Cowboy is compiled here in this deluxe 3 LP box set complete with 4 page booklet. Essential for all true Van Morrison fans.
"[A] number of great songs can be found here, including the all-time great 'Brown Eyed Girl,' 'The Back Room,' 'He Ain't Give You None,' and 'Ro Ro Rosey.' Early versions of tracks from Astral Weeks, 'T.B. Sheets' and 'Madame George,' also appear. Despite Van's objections to being a pop artist, the conflict between the two styles makes for some very interesting and invigorating listening... [A]nyone whose love of the man goes beyond the hits needs to add these to their collection." - Tim Sendra, allmusic Rated 4/5 Stars

Van Morrison Roll With the Punches 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION 2LP SET
37th Album On 180g Vinyl Double LP Features R&B Covers Alongside Originals!
Roll With The Punches, the Belfast legend’s 37th album, sees him simultaneously hand-picking a selection of rhythm’n’blues classics (by the likes of Bo Diddley, Mose Allison, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Lightnin’ Hopkins, among others) and recording a set of new self-written songs.
Songs including Count Basie and Jimmy Rushing’s ‘Goin’ To Chicago’, Bo Diddley’s ‘Ride On Josephine’ and Lightnin’ Hopkins’ ‘Automobile Blues’ are among Morrison’s raw, intimate reinterpretations of some of the cornerstones of rock’n’roll, alongside five original numbers including ‘Transformation’, ‘Fame’, ‘Ordinary People’ and the titular song, which is co-written with Don Black.
Roll With The Punches was produced by Van Morrison and recorded with an incredible team of studio collaborators including Chris Farlowe, Georgie Fame, Jeff Beck, Paul Jones and Jason Rebello.
Van commented: “From a very early age, I connected with the blues. The thing about the blues is you don’t dissect it – you just do it. I’ve never over-analysed what I do; I just do it. Music has to be about just doing it and that’s the way the blues works – it’s an attitude. I was lucky to have met people who were the real thing – people like John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bo Diddley, Little Walter and Mose Allison. I got to hang out with them and absorb what they did. They were people with no ego whatsoever and they helped me learn a lot.
“The songs on Roll With The Punches – whether I’ve written them or not – they’re performance oriented,” he continues. “Each song is like a story and I’m performing that story. That’s been forgotten over years because people over-analyse things. I was a performer before I started writing songs and I’ve always felt like that’s what I do.”
"Roll With the Punches includes tunes by Bo Diddley ("I Can Tell," "Ride on Josephine"), Lightnin' Hopkins ("Automobile Blues") and Little Walter ("Mean Old World"). Several of Van Morrison's selections are popular post-war standards, like "Stormy Monday," which has been recorded by Lou Rawls and the Allman Brothers and lead single "Bring It on Home to Me," originally performed by Sam Cooke and later rendered as a duet by Otis Redding and Carla Thomas." - rollingstone

The hymn-like title track has been an enduring hit, as well as the other single released from the album, "Wild Night". The namesake for the album is a varietal honey produced from the flowers of the tupelo tree in southeastern US. The cover photograph showed Janet, his wife at the time, on horseback and Van walking alongside. Part of Van Morrison's living-in-the-country-and-taking-life-easy series of early-1970s albums, Tupelo Honey is full of the organic mix of soul, folk, blues and rock that was his signature sound at the time. The freewheeling "Wild Night" bursts at the seams with the pure joy of living, carried along by R&B horns and Morrison's own soulful invocations.

The debut album by the group, also known as The Angry Young Them, and half its tracks make it a dead-on rival to the Stones' debut album, writes Bruce Eder for AllMusic. This reissue features the album's original British configuration ("Just a Little Bit," "I Gave My Love a Diamond," "Bright Lights, Big City," and "My Little Baby" are here; "One Two Brown Eyes" and "Here Comes the Night" are absent).
