Description
IAN DURY & The Blockheads: Jukebox Dury (compilation). Used vintage LP in Mint/Mint condition. Stiff-America Records LP Catalog # USE 17; 1980
Condition: There are no real flaws in either the vinyl or the packaging, the latter including a nifty soft poly inner sleeve imprinted with a “Stiff Recordings” logo in blue.
Behind the Music: Okay, so what is “Punk Music”?? To my mind, the only true punk band was/is The Dead Kennedys!! My opinion aside, “Punk” originated in the UK among musicians with an anti-Establishment attitude, including their attitude toward the Record Industry establishment. Thus instrumentation tended to be sparse, loud, aggressive and ditto for vocals. It’s said that The Sex Pistols couldn’t play instruments worth a hoot initially and kind of learned on the job. But be it noted that listening to this music for first time in decades, I find it surprisingly “heavily” produced. I think Stiff Records may have started as an independent label, but after hearing the likes of Elvis Costello, CBS Records division Epic Records gobbled some of these acts up. Ian Dury & the Blockheads had some radio hits here in the US in the late ‘70s. I remember the era well. “Reasons to Be Cheerful Part 3” exceeded six minutes, which means only a “progressive” FM station would be willing to give it airtime. “Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick” likewise exceeded the limits at Top 40 radio. This album compiles material from 1978 to 1980 and includes tunes that may ring a bell for some of you: “Reasons to Be Cheerful (Part 3)”; “Inbetweenies”; the beloved “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll” and “Sweet Gene Vincent.”
- About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow. New items added weekly, check back often!
[NOTE: I clean all LPs with the Record Doctor device, but you will likely find my items rather dusty when they arrive. I have a lot of static electricity in my house, and dust always instantly returns to record surfaces after cleaning! Sorry about that!]
PLEASE NOTE: I will not sell anything for less than $9.99, as it’s not worth packaging the item up and taking it to the Post Office. Sure, you can buy an LP for 50 cents or less at a yard sale, but will it have been cared for like mine? Not likely.
FREE SHIPPING to U.S. address for purchase of any item of $100 or more.
