This is a I-sided –A side-original DECCA Test Press.
Well I am going to be listing some more acetates and test pressings in the next few weeks so I thought I would list something Ultra rare.
Truthfully if you’re looking at this page you will know the full history of this record and its unreleased status. So I am simply going to concentrate on the test press rather than the history.
Now what we have is the A side unreleased MONO test press LP of one the rarest UK Psych LP. Now I got this in around 1971 and I did write down info etc then but time has only left this in my memory. What I did keep was the inner sleeve with a few bits of info. As always with Decca the catalogue number is different to the stamped matrix. So the Matrix is XARL 9217-P-A2-which is what appears on the run out. Now I have only seen one set of tests for this LP and I am pretty sure the last number was A-1. Also scrawled on the sleeve is the Cat No. LK 5028 and the number 1. It is possible this was a second pass on the LP. Logically people always think test pressings are made as a complete unit but this isn’t always true. Pressings may be done of one side many times. I have many Test pressings that are exactly this. One of the Stones LP’s seems to have had the b side-and only the B side- of the LP done 5 times!!!
Anyway back to this LP the saved inner sleeve also has the checkers signature.
Now the great news is that this TEST PRESS is in beautiful condition –hardly touched. Basically it was checked, filed and ultimately dumped. I have played it twice –and that includes the soundclips. I suspect other than that and the original checker that’s it.
If you want to own a piece of PSYCH history-this is it.
I have collected test pressings and acetates for over 35 years. Many of my own collection have been used for compilations etc. And as I said in the coming months some great stuff will coming up.
Absolutely NO zero feedback bidders-it will be removed.
