EXTREMELY RARE LIMITED RUN ISSUE RED LABEL WITH A PURPLE “TARGET” CIRCLE CAPITOL RECORDS LOGO

THE BEATLES ~ REVOLVER (1971)

CAPITOL RECORDS WINCHESTER PLANT PRESSING WITH THE “─” (RIFLE) ETCHING IN THE RUNOUT GROOVE

Incredibly rare issue of The Beatles “Revolver” with an extremely rare red label containing the purple Capitol Records “C” logo. In May 1971, Capitol changed the design of the label, going from a lime green to a new red background with the purple "Target" circle label. After Apple Records announced that it was going to reissue all of the Beatles records on its own label, the issues with the red Capitol label were discontinued. Therefore, Capitol Records unintentionally created an exceptionally rare issue. The actual amount of the “Revolver” copies pressed on the red “Target” label hasn’t been documented, but based on the fact that they show up for sale incredibly rarely it could be stated that their amount was minimal. Perhaps, this issue isn’t as rare as “Yesterday…and Today”, the second Beatles’ album to be pressed on the red “Target” label, but nevertheless, dedicating some time I managed to find only around 20 sold copies that ended up in the statistics of the sites that monitor the vinyl sales. If you find more copies, please take into consideration that some of them have been resold several times. The “Yesterday…and Today” and “Revolver” albums are the only confirmed US Beatles issues with the Capitol Records red background purple “Target” circle logo label. The original cover remains in the fully intact factory shrink wrap and has the factory designator RIAA 12 in the bottom right corner of the back cover, which is the identifier of the Capitol Records Winchester, VA pressing plant, that by this time had been pressing vinyl for two years. The plant’s identifier is also located in the runout groove of both sides of the vinyl in the form of a “─◁” (rifle) symbol after the matrix numbers, which are as follows: Side 1 - ST1-2576-W13; Side 2 - ST-2-2576-X10. Insanely rare collectible example of one of the rarest US Beatles issues and one of only two documented Beatles records to feature the red background Capitol Records purple “C” logo label. The album comes with an original Capitol Records plain white die-cut inner sleeve.

I grade the stunning cover as Near Mint. The vinyl is in Very Good Plus condition. It retains its shiny factory lacquer but has a few very light hairlines and marks along with some light scuffs from the original paper inner sleeve, which is in Near Mint condition. The red Capitol Records labels are super clean, completely wear-, scuff- and spindle wear-free and are in Mint condition. The vinyl sounds great with just some light occasional static, which most likely will get reduced or go away if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
