Description
A relatively unknown commodity in the realm of Garage/Surf collectors, mentioned only in Osbourne's guide where it is listed for $300-$400. This is the only copy I've seen in 20+ years of collecting, a rarity that came through the doors of Good Rockin' Tonight during my tenure there. The LP is housed in its original paper sleeve - the only cover issued - with spartan B&W graphics on front and a blank back bearing group member Layton Humphrey's autograph ("To Jill...Best of luck"). Despite its 1962-63 vintage, the sleeve is in remarkable condition having only light creasing and small fraying in the upper corners. No seam splitting present, earning a solid VG+ grade. The disc also grades VG+ due to light surface markings that do little to detract from visual and aural performance.
So, what do they sound like? More early instrumental Garage than Surf, though Surf collectors will find enough to like, as well. One can easily detect wafts of the Ventures, Wailers, and Champs in their sound (minus the sax) in this superlative party band. In fact, the band strives to capture a live party atmosphere on record. Strictly instrumental, this Dallas-based rarity is bound to please the most discriminating collector of the genre, in both its condition and tunes.
Songs: "Gentlemen's Cha Cha," "Little Scottie Went Walkin'," "Big D Special," "The Onion Twist," "Erotica," Corpus Guitar," "Stompy," "Bond Special," "The Drag," "Humph Special," and "Moonlight."
