Condition Gradings

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.

The collection boasts thousands of items compiled over many years by the legendary DJ and Broadcaster Mike Read. Following the live auction held in London at the end of November where his numerous music publications, celebrity photos and bulk lots of vinyl were sold, we are now selling the highly sought after and much publicised gems from his collection.

In addition to the individual listings we will also be selling more lots of 7” singles and demos. We are currently working on the basis that most vinyl collections are built around a specific genre whether that is punk, beat, soul etc; we are therefore lotting together many fantastic items by genre.

We will continue to run auctions for items within the Mike Read Collection, over the coming weeks we will bringing you many more fantastic items from the from the vast array of genres represented in this famed collection such as rare punk classics, many acetates and test pressings, psych LP’s and arguably the biggest collection of Tamla Motown demos to ever come onto the market at once. In addition we will be auctioning many other items from the wider collection such as Mike’s ‘One Armed Bandit’ fruit machine in working order, several pieces of art and some fantastic autographs from legends such as David Bowie, The Beach Boys, Sir Cliff Richard and Sir Paul McCartney to name but a few

Regarding bidding on the autographs, we are aware that unlawful traders continue to sell what would appear to be very cheaply priced autographs, only for them to turn out to be fake. Firstly due to the source they came from we are certain of there authenticity, however as a matter of course Ashwells Group has had each one examined by experts. We can therefore provide a guarantee of authenticity with each autograph purchased.
