Description
One-off chance to own a UK pressing of a yellow vinyl signed copy of The Ramones' 1978 album "Road to Ruin" in amazing condition. Signed by all four members: Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and Marky.
I obtained these signatures in person when the band appeared on "The Old Grey Whistle Test" on September 19th, 1978.
When preparing the album for sale I noticed what looks like another signature on the front cover. I took a closer look and discovered it was Howard Devoto's. Magazine was on the same "OGWT" episode. He must have signed it with a black pen on the black part of the cover and you can't see it on the posted cover photo.)
The Ramones were one of the proto punk bands that came out of CBGB in New York in the mid-1970s along with--most famously--Patti Smith, Television, and Talking Heads..
At first the band was appreciated more outside the USA (except NY and L.A.), galvanizing the British punk movement after a much-anticipated series of shows at The Roundhouse in London.
But their influence on bands like Green Day and every punk band that came before and after them was finally acknowledged when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
In 2011 they received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Sadly, by then, three of the founding members were dead: Joey and Johnny from cancer, and Dee Dee from a drug overdose. The Lifetime Achievement Award was accepted by the early surviving members Marky and original drummer Tommy.
