BEATTLES VEE JAY #498 45 PLEASE PLEASE ME / ASK ME WHY
This is the rarest version of the misspelled first US 45 by THE BEATTLES (Beatles misspelled) and is titled Please Please Me/Ask Me Why (Vee Jay #498). It is classified as VJ 498.03 by Bruce Spizer. Listen to audio of both sides below.
The labels have the hashtag (#) instead of "VJ" in front of the catalog number. These are the Vee Jay oval logo labels with rainbow outer rims and silver print on a black background. Also, the labels have songwriter credits in microprint, and the words "VOCAL", "TIME", and "CONCERTONE SONGS-ASCAP" printed in capital letters.
The master numbers are hand-etched adjacent to "Audio Matrix" machine-stamped in each trail-off area. There is no pressing plant logo in the trail-off areas, which indicates the record was pressed by Southern Plastics.
The single comes in a stock Vee Jay company sleeve, which is the same on both sides, with "Vee Jay" printed six times around the hole and the company address at the bottom.
The record has very heavy wear with considerable scuffing and several scratches, a couple of which are large. The hand-etched matrix numbers are very faint. This historical record plays well for its condition, does not skip, and is graded Good (G). The Vee Jay company sleeve is clean with no tears or writing. There is a price sticker on one side.
