Description
The Beatles "Please Please Me" b/w "Ask Me Why" misspelled 45 rpm record (Vee Jay 498). This incredibly rare record is the very first Beatles 45 issued in the United States under their name. Released in the U.S. in February 1963, about a year before Beatlemania broke out here in early 1964, has the group's name misspelled as Beattles on both sides in thinner print. Under the group's name is VJ 498 and the label logo is out spelled Vee Jay inside an oval at the top. Stock copies of this record are rarer than promo copies because the record did not sell. In early 1964, after Beatlemania began, Vee Jay re-issued the record as Vee Jay 581 with "Please Please Me" on the A side and "From Me to You" on the flip side. This record is one of the most sought after commercially released Beatle 45s. It is an original pressing (I've owned it for nearly 40 years) that plays in VG+ condition. The record has some surface marks and some wear on both sides but the record plays cleanly without skips on both sides and the music clearly dominates over light surface noise (on my player with a heavier tone arm). The black labels with the rainbow band have light ring wear on the A side and slightly more on the B side and are in VG+ to VG++ condition. This record will only be mailed via USPS Overnight postage, with adequate insurance and delivery confirmation in the U.S. and by registered mail outside the U.S., so postage prices will reflect that. Winner pays $15 for overnight postage in the U.S. and Canada, even though ebay is not allowing me to enter more than $4 for postage below. Please ignore that rate should you win this auction.
