Description
Shep Ginandes was a Boston-based physician who took on a second career as a folk singer in the late 1940's and, by 1953, was serving as the inspiration for figures such as Tom Lehrer, and providing songs to the likes of Dave Van Ronk. The first American folk artist signed to Jac Holzman's Elektra Records, he released a handful of LPs in the 1950's, and his music was still being cited as an influence (and played occasionally, on more ambitious radio shows) in the twenty-first century. THERE WAS A LITTLE TREE was a 10-song album (10-inch LP) of folk songs aimed at children, out the American songbook (with some British influence, obviously), sung by Ginandes accompanying himself on the guitar. The cover was the work of Maurice Sendak (see photo, which is a partial view due to limitations of our scanner), and his art is reproduced in black-and-white on the insert/lyric booklet, which is present here. The platter itself is slight better than VG+ condition -- at times in plays so quietly that it could qualify as Mint-minus, but it's never poorer than VG+. The jacket is clean and there are no splits or other flaws.
