Description

For those who think they know, but do not fully understand - please read and digest!!! I was involved with sound system during the 70s to 90s, and within this time i amassed a vast collection of dubplates.  A lot of the material was given by the producers directly and some given from fellow sound owners due to the runnings at that time, and vice versa, whether it be a 2 inch tape, acetate or on cassette. Over the decades most of my plates were damaged due to their fragility, plus the overplaying and handling of such items, especially when having to travel the length and breadth of the country whilst playing out. Therefore, the stock had to be replenished because of wear and tear, hence the recuts. This process started  5, 10, 15 and up to 25 years ago - so before anyone starts to 'run up dem mout' you better understand the fullness before casting any wrong assumptions!!! First and foremost, these dubs are mines!!!!!!!  And if i choose to sell any items from my personal collection then so be it. Almost 60 to 70% of the dubplates sold on Ebay are recuts, sold by the big sellers and the little man alike, whether on custom vinyl or acetate, whether they were cut eons ago or not.   Some of the 'new cats' just want to have a cut or a particular mix of a song, but then you have an avid collector who wants a piece of history so only wants the plates that were cut maybe 30 years ago, understandably. It seems unethical to be selling an acetate which is beyond a playable status, and something which you would truly not enjoy, that is my opinion.  However,  some very old dubs will come up for sale when i can locate them, but those in a 'decent' condition. Lastly, and just for the record - before Ebay and the net,  'various individuals' were selling dubs to one another, even trading to sound systems who were coming up through the ranks, even to big sounds who had lost some of their stock, so if this has devalued the whole thing then  to those who want to complain - you are maybe 20 odd years late.  Thank you for taking the time to read this.
P.S. Just for those who still do not get it, Jammys, Tubbys, Channel One, Joe Gibbs, Dynamics, Tuff Gong, Music Works etc, have long abandoned selling custom dubplates.  Most of the mixes were actually done by the engineer whilst the plate was being cut on the lathe. So for those who wish to 'make that trip' to Jamaica or New York in search of these rare mixes may have very little luck. Just saying!
