Description
RUPERT'S PEOPLE had some connection with now-legendary beat-busting psychsters The FLEUR DE LYS, when that band extended themselves to cut the brilliant 'Hold On' - and one of their members decided to make RUPERTS PEOPLE his own project and recruit new members. I believe Adrian Gurvitz/Curtis later of The GUN was involved in that first single. Among the new band-members was John Tout, who went on to play with the brilliant classical-rock band Rennaissance, after working with John Lennon on the Imagine album. The group didn't lose momentum after the first single either, as their following releases are all really good! Here's a coupling of two outstanding tracks, that made this particular issue a double-A gem; 'A PROLOGUE TO A MAGIC WORLD' and 'DREAM ON MY MIND' on COLUMBIA RECORDS DO-5034 . The first is a winsome psychedelic piece that epitomises the times, and is themed around the Alice In Wonderland tale in a cohesive harmony and swimming instrumental parts. Flip it over for a Mod-style upbeat song, again with psyched-out lyrics and an up-beat time not unlike The Factory were doing with their 'Path Thru The Forest'. Somehow, like so many incredibly ignored artists, the Rupert's People never had any 'hit' as such, and remain one of those bands fabled by collectors and revered for their quality, if small, output of rare releases.
This copy is an Australian issue, with the vinyl in outstanding NM condition ! The labels are absolutely pristine, with a tiny 'sample' sticker only on one side (see pic). Snag a jewel from a wonderful period of music and a great band - and in top playing condition !!
The original Columbia sleeve is in excellent shape, clean and unfaded.
