Hi, I am Mike, I have been a music collector for over 30 years now. I always still try to offer the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find - I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any interested collector. You may notice I only submit one or two items a day for Ebay; time rarely allows more as I Play-Grade every record I offer (on a Rega 3 deck with Ortofon cartridge) - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story - I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested collector. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. A ten pounds record that plays close to new is as important to the collector as a 250 pound record that plays less well. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. Cat Number: LK 4733 A MONO copy.

Label and Condition: Decca red labels large unboxed original version with ffrr with ear logo. Absolutely stunning examples of this very desirable label, one of the very finest of the 1960s. I have rarely ever seen a Stones album label this clean. The owner told me he bought this from new and played only once putting it to tape. Well all the evidence agrees with his statement because finding labels this clean is astonishing. Both sides have a couple of light spindle traces and are almost as clean as new, bear in mind the age of this record, even the loose fragment burr of plastic around the centre hold on side 1 is still intact and can be clearly seen on the label scan - just how fresh is that? (Please see label scans for all information needed - and quite honestly have you ever seen Rolling Stones mono records labels this clean and beautiful?).

Rarity: Getting very scarce now, Early Rolling Stones albums are far harder to find than Beatles albums and finding them in such a condition is getting extremely difficult and fast disappearing.

Original Year of Release: 1965

Matrix Nos: ARL 6973 8B and ARL6974 1A The tiny pressing numbers are: 4 and 1, but these are never easy to read, but these look pretty clear.

Genre Type: Classic 60s pop/beat.

Brief Artist & Album Info: Legends in their own lifetime and featuring without doubt for me their strongest ever line up. This copy on offer is lovely and plays superbly. A true vintage gem from the UK’s finest - every album on Decca is truly essential. A mono copy in a playing condition that is unlikely to be bettered - its almost perfect (please see my reference to mono vs stereo below). Produced by the legendary Andrew Loog Oldham hearing this classic via the original format is simply marvellous, nothing comes close to the true vinyl experience and when they play this well even more so.

Cover Condition and Details: EX++, single, laminated front, no flipbacks on this copy, Printed in England by Robert Stace. Mono is printed on front, back and spine. NO peep-hole in back to denote mono or stereo copy, thse came much later. Record comes in its original lined inner which is ruffled but clean and untorn or split and a nice clear clear window. A super cover that realistically will be hard to find much better, close to mint covers of this great age are supremely rare and this one only falls slightly short.

Cover Lamination: Very strong indeed and has a very nice shine. Few marks and only small light and few creases, any present show little really. Early Stones covers were always quite thin and vulnerable to wear and creasing but this shows little and has clearly been stored well over its long life. The laminate has not lifting or peeling or dry areas and no indentations.

Cover Front: Very attractive indeed and would be hard to find better. Very clean and unworn, a hint of a pressmark from the very heavy vinyl inside if viewed from angled light but try finding one that has not got signs of this. Under normal viewing conditions nothing can be seen and this is probably as light as you will ever find, its NOT ringwear just a very light press mark. A beautiful front example that a joy to look at.

Cover Back: Black and white and not laminated. but apart from some light discolouring to the top and bottom. and I mean light this is a super example again. It has very little signs of the the almost normal rubbing and severe discolouration associated with these types of this age. It is generally clean and unworn and looks really nice. A small indent line can be just seen again under angled light towards the very centre but can hardly be seen at all under normal viewing conditions, again few creases and the odd one present is very light and hardly noticeable.

Cover Edges/Corners: Top: unworn. Bottom: unworn. Record entry edge (right):little wear, minimal light feathering if being very critical. Spine: Solid and square and unworn, all text is pristine under the uncracked laminate. Corners: All four show little wear at all and are still nicely shaped. Summary: A fine all round example of this scarce original 60’s cover, one that would prove hard to find much better. This super cover should please most collectors.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EX++ clean and shiny and pressed on very heavy top quality vinyl. There are one or two light surface marks/very light surface scuffs but very few and all are completely superificial and nothing sounds at all. These are just light marks from the inner removal or even ‘sweat’ marks that sometimes occur from all those years stashed away in the cover. This is still one of the very cleanest looking Stones records this age I have ever seen.

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Mint(-) and close to full Mint because this plays quite brilliantly. No sound degrading whatsoever - just pure clear undistorted sound and the highest quality. There is no doubting this record has hardly been played. To hear such a fine gem in close virgin new condition is breathtaking. I can remember not a single pop or tick and any surface noise is barely worthy of a mention. A remarkable record and one to truly cherish. Please read the paragraph below to put a record like into full context.

Mono vs Stereo: Always a matter of opinion. For any serious collector where there is a choice e.g. Beatles, Stones, Hendrix etc. both are essential. True Stereo albums give great imagery and presence whereas mono albums usually are more dynamic, louder and present the detail more clearly. Mono albums are far harder to find in genuinely top playing condition. Most were heavily played, particularly the truly great bands and artists, often covered in mark and scratches, many severe and labels that were a mass of spindle marks. The majority were played on vintage and unsubtle decks with heavy tonearms and thick styli (often sapphire, not diamond, that chipped more easily) that rendered heavy wear in a very short time to many a fine classic record. Wear to the delicate groove walls, particularly the innermost tracks to the labels were most vulnerable where the tracking angle became more severe and the backdrag actually stripped the delicate groove walls. This resulted in surface noise and mild/moderate distortion or worse. These old decks tracked by sheer weight and little of any refined engineering. Next time you see such a deck at a local record fayre, feel the weight of the arm, it almost makes you wonder how any records survived at all. The point of this paragraph is emphasise that when a truly clean, lightly played and great sounding 60s mono album (or stereo come to that) is found, treasure it, because for sure they do not appear often. Visuals alone will not tell you how a vintage mono record will sound, even one play with a damaged pickup could spoil the sound quality - so beware - demand only play-graded records.

Final Summary: A mono recording of the highest quality and condition - its a gateway into the recording studio and no CD format will replicate the sound of the real thing. Just holding such an important record, now fast approaching forty years old gives pleasure. A lovely cover - way, way above the average, many even have tears because of the slightly thinner than normal card and a record that is as fresh and clean as could almost realistically be found these days. This one has not just survived the 60s potential playing abuse, it looks superb and sounds quite amazing. I think this fine classic should please most collectors even the connoisseurs who demand near the very best - if a copy plays better I'd sure like to hear it. - Mike.

USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and other Far Eastern countries etc: £5.50. This is covered up to £28 insurance and would be sent 1st-class airmail. Please note I do not profit on postage (my packing standards are high and the package weighs a little more).

Extra insurance with recorded delivery is available too for non-Europe countries but will cost an extra £5 also, the item will be covered for up to £250 or even £500 insurance for some detinations - customs label prices will be kept low.

I accept cash for payments worldwide in UK Pounds Sterling, Euros or US Dollars - but this at the senders own risk. Please send registered and insured if this method is chosen.
