THE ROLLING STONES - No. 1
This is the 1st EVER pressing of The Rolling Stones first ever album, and one of the rarest vinyl records in the world.

The short version of Tell Me does occasionally come up for sale, but never with the correct cover, and never in great condition, making this an incredible rarity!

The vinyl is in stunning condition, which is unheard of for such a rare record, and comes with the ultra rare short version of the track, Tell Me, along with the correct, extremely rare cover, which has full flip backs, The Mono logo, the catalogue number on the top right hand corner and the track listing, ‘MONA’ on the rear album cover.

This great example of this great vinyl has barely been played and looks and sounds amazing!

A STUNNING ORIGINAL UK MONO 1st EVER PRESSING with it's original 1st EVER UK COVER and inner sleeve, all IN GREAT CONDITION, with stunning clear audio throughout.

Only the first ever pressing has the short version of the track, 'Tell Me', and only the correct original covers come with the following issues.

The first covers can be identified in the following ways with the following printing errors: -

The forth song has the title “Mona” on the rear panel

The credit for “Honest I Do” is for Hurran and Calvert

"Can I Get A Witness" is misspelt, with Bozier instead of Dozier

The “If” in “You Can Make It If You Try” is missing altogether

The first ever cover must have all of these errors and must be a Flip cover with ‘Printed in England by MacNeill Press’, on the bottom rear panel, must have MONO LK 4605 text in the upper corner, along with the incredibly rare “Mona” credit for the track, Honest I Do. Achieving the combination of all of these errors and assignations, as this one has, makes this one of the rarest, most individual and unavailable record covers of all time.

Here we have a complete MONO Pressing of the THE ROLLING STONES First Ever Album. With the 2A 1A Matrix numbers, with the Rare Flip Back Cover and correct Original Inner Sleeve.
The Rolling Stones debut album was issued in April 1964 , with the song Tell Me having the writing credit to "Jagger / Richard”, becoming famous worldwide.

This was a completely different, shorter version to the one they would re-record for their 1st LP. The Rolling Stones, Andrew Loog Oldham and Eric Easton jointly wanted to extend the song's length and further, numerous takes were made. The official re-recorded version had a running length of 4:06 minutes, longer than the original version, that ran for 2:52 minutes. When the full album's recording sessions were finished, the tapes were assembled to begin pressing the LP.

This is the original 1st pressing, with the orignal short cut of Tell Me, its original inner sleeve and its incredibly rare cover. The version of "Tell Me” on this first pressing was mistakenly pressed with the short version, forcing a with-drawl of unsold copies. The many mistakes on the first batch of covers would be discovered, with Mona being the wrong title for the song and all other spelling and credit mistakes. A new cover was made quickly, and left out the all important MONO LK 4605 text in the upper corner.

The first cut is different to the long version in a number of ways. Jaggers' singing and Wymans' bass tracks are different than those on the corrected long version, and the original track has a raw, punchy feel. Tell Me is on side 2. of the LP with the 1st matrix number - XARL6272-1A.

This is a great opportunity to own a classic rare piece of musical history, from my own personal collection, with a stunning cover and ABSOLUTELY TOP AUDIO THROUGHOUT!

The Rolling Stones is the debut album by The Rolling Stones, released by DECCA in the United Kingdom on 16 April 1964, and sometimes known as Stones No.1.

Recorded at Regent Sound Studios in London over the course of five days in January and February 1964, The Rolling Stones was produced by Andrew Loog Oldham and Eric Easton. The Rolling Stones was originally released by DECCA in the UK, while the US  England newest Hit-makers appeared on the London Labels label, with the track "Not Fade Away" (the a side of the band's third UK single) replacing "Mona (I Need You Baby)

The majority of the tracks reflect the band's love for authentic R & B material. Mick Jagger  and Keith Richards were still much fledging songwriters during early 1964, contributing only one original composition to the album: "Tell Me". Two numbers are credited to  "Nanker Phelge" - a pseudonym the band used for group compositions from 1963 to 1965. Phil Spector and Gene Pitney   both contributed to the recording sessions, and are referred to as "Uncle Phil and Uncle Gene" in the subtitle of the Nanker Phelge instrumental "Now I've Got a Witness".

The album cover photo was taken by Nicholas Wright. The cover bears no title or identifying information other than the photo and the Decca logo - an "unheard of" design concept originated by manager Andrew Oldham. The Rolling Stones became one of 1964's biggest sellers in the UK, staying at #1 for 12 weeks.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - TOP AUDIO sound quality throughout!

This rare record looks fantastic and sounds incredibly bright and clear. Strong, undistorted sound, the channels are clean and unstressed. The music jumps out, with incredible definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals which come through with tremendous power.

This really is an unbelievable piece, with no obvious hiss there are no continuous unwanted sounds what so ever. This great record plays with TOP AUDIO audio - super bright sound clear of surface noise or sound interruptions. This RARE MONO press has strong undistorted audio, with super clear sound and minimal background static. There is the occassional pop and click, but nothing unusual. It really sounds great and plays with great sound separation and clarity! I will give a detailed account below:

This great sounding MONO pressing starts with barely any static in run ins and intro to 'Route 66', a loud track that can still be plagued by crackle, hiss and static. Not here, just great sound. There are two clicks and a couple of split second patches of groove wear. The audio is superb.

Again, the intro to 'I Just Wanna Make Love to You' sounds so clear and the whole of the first side really plays with superbly clear audio throughout. Two light pops only and virtually no detectable surface sound, and not even a hint of distortion.

The quiet 'Honest I do' sounds superb, with crystal clear audio, and the raw audio effects can really be heard here. Its sounds like you are in the studio with the Stones. Very light occasional static and one click.

'I Need You Baby' comes in again with incredibly clear bright sound, I could detect barely any static and certainly no distortion. There is some very faint static between these two tracks, but it's very faint and hard to pick up.

'Now I've Got A Witness' plays again with crystal clear audio. Incredible for an original pressing of the Stones first ever album.

'Little By Little' ends side 1. again with great clear sound. Barely any faint occasional static and no pops or clicks. Superb.

'I'm a King Bee' brings in side 2. with amazing clear audio. Barely any detectable surface sound or static! There is one light pop in the middle of the song, but it is light.

'Carol' also plays superbly, still with no loud pops or clicks, and crystal clear sound.

I'm very happy to say that the same goes for the introduction to 'Tell Me'. On this extremely rare short 2.52 version, instead of the standard version that runs at around 4.06, there is a barely any light static at the very start of the track, or anywhere else on this great pressing. So often heavily distorted and affected by loud clicks and hiss, it plays through with great clarity and superb sound.  The long outro plays with just crystal clear audio.

Even the stunning 'Can I get a Witness', such a difficult track to find with clear sound, pays superbly. A great audio performance, there are no tics during the outro, no pops or clicks and barely any detectable static to be heard at all.

'You Can Make it if You Try' plays with the same extremely high audio quality, and sounds extremely bright and clear. There are a couple of tics and one light pop in the middle of the track, but it is light.

'Walking the Dog' rounds of the album again with great clear sound. A really stunning performance with no pops or clicks, just stunning bright clear sound.

Superb sound, every track has been tested and I could find no obvious sound blemishes at all. Free from static or surface sound this vinyl could not be bettered. Wonderful TOP audio,  Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten.

An absolutely TOP all round example of this classic extremely rare and early vinyl.

Graded at EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT.

THE RECORD - Visual Grading

A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original early pressings, this vinyl has been barely played. In daylight and under the spotlight and looks virtually unmarked. It is unbelievable to think this vinyl is over 60 years old!

The vinyl surfaces have only the faintest of handling marks. This great vinyl shows no groove wear, as proven through the great audio delivery.

THE LABELS

SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING:

All our records are play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. We aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound, pointing out the slightest defect so that you know exactly what you are buying. We aim to describe all records as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

Highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and what we always aim for. We only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance; super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest pressing you will find occasional static or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and we advise a light clean between plays for optimal performance.
