I am offering up for auction another, and my last, collector’s copy of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, SCX-6157, in STEREO, on the BLUE UK COLUMBIA label. I have finally completed recording my entire Floyd catalog to reel-to-reel and it’s time to let them go to another good home.
I had sold the companion MONO version of this title recently; see my feedback for that transaction, but I found it more difficult to let go of the STEREO copy; until now that is.....
EVERYBODY has, or is selling, the MONO version of this pressing. It is much more common and more readily available than then its STEREO sibling; especially in any kind of decent shape let alone the condition I am offering here! Any collector of Floyd vinyl who shops eBay or the other vinyl forums will verify this statement.
This is a very, very rare version of this LP as it is a A TRUE 1ST PRESSING! I will note all of the proof of this statement below:
VINYL:
GRADED MINT-!
To start; the record is pressed on VERY THICK CHUNKY VINYL and not the flimsy thin vinyl used on the later pressings.
The MATRIX NUMBERS in the dead wax ends in 1-P & 1-M.
It took me many copies of this LP to finally find one in this condition. It is simply in stunning condition with MAYBE ONE or TWO wispy lines from removing from & replacing back into the inner sleeve. They are VERY DIFFICULT to see; even in unforgiving halogen & sunlight.
VISUALLY:
MINT- as if it has been pressed yesterday w/NO GRAYING of the grooves!
PLAY GRADING:
It was also relief to find that the playing of the record is as stunning as the visual; WHICH IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE! Some of my worst looking records play the best! It plays “DEAD QUIET”, CRISP & CLEAN STEREO! with only the slightest low-level hiss at very loud volumes during silent passages. There are NO HISS, NO POPS, NO CRACKLES, and NO JUMPS & NO STICKS! The sound quality is simply superb with NO GROOVE WEAR and NO DISTORTION!
LABLES:
Black Columbia label with silver text, and a BLUE "Columbia Records Magic Notes Trademark" at the top, and a BLUE "Columbia" in the center.
Underneath the blue "Columbia" it says "Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions. See price lists."
At the bottom of the label, it says "Made in GT Britain."
Text around the bottom edge of the label starts at 10 o'clock and says:
The Gramophone Co., Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorized public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited.
There are a couple of light spindle marks on one side only and can be seen in the some of the pictures I have taken.
COVER: Graded a EXCELLENT+++!
Laminated Flip-Back cover. At top fold-over of back cover it says "File under POPULAR: Pop Groups." SCX-6157.
At bottom fold-over of back cover it says "6809 TPS Printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London.
The cover has VERY limited edge, corner & pine wear! There is only ONE small ¾” slight crease. There is NO writing and NO ring wear, NO SEAM SPLITS and the COVER IS FLAT! The opening edges are beautifully STRAIGHT!
