Pink Floyd : More 1G / 1G Soundtrack 1st Press (One EMI box / west facing 'Green' tinted back cover)

This mega early first pressing is one of first off the 'production line'.  With only a single stamper on each side (R & A) it would be difficult to find an earlier one and especially in this condition.  The audio plays to a wonderful standard and the 'green tinted' west facing cover is also very clean with barely any wear.

This first press obviously has the 1G matrix and just the one EMI logo and 'Made in Gt Britain - Sold In UK etc...' on the labels.

The vinyl is visually so impressive and has been so well preserved down the years.  With no real spindle wear it has only been lightly played.  As I say it would be so hard to find such an early pressing as stunning as this - just look on the pinkfloydarchives site to see how early it is!

Visual grading

This vinyl is in superb condition and has been so well looked after down the decades.  It has an immaculate glossy sheen and barely any marking.  All I can detect are a couple of faint hairlines and one minor 'fade' line on S1 which have no affect on the stunning audio.  S2 is even better with only a couple of barely visible hairlines!  It is so rare to find such an early first pressing as visually stunning as this - there is no obvious spindle wear and it is clear this has only ever been lightly played.  The run out grooves and one EMI box labels are also in superlative condition.

Play grading  

'Cirrus Minor' has only the bare minimum of very light static on the very quiet 'birdsong' intro and plays very cleanly with no clicks or pops at all.  The clarity is superb for a 50 year old record.  As the acoustic guitar/vocal come in this clarity continues with only the odd mega light dust tick for company.  There are a handful of slightly more obvious ticks (not clicks!) in the middle section but there is no underlying static or crackle and the remainder plays with stunning clarity.  A very impressive Ex+ start overall but with many sections grading better than that. 

'The Nile Song' plays loud and true with no distortion.  From start to finish it plays with great precision and there is no interference.  Mint-

The quiet intro on 'Crying Song' plays very well with only a very gentle static sound in the background, nothing intrusive.  Once the vocal begins the audio is of a very high standard and carries on in much the same way.  I would grade this as Near Mint as there is nothing to detract from the audio - it plays so 'cleanly' with only a couple of light ticks near then end.

'Up The Khyber' is faultless and grades as Mint- with not interference at all.  The clarity and definition is superb and the minus is only there in order to keep to RC guidelines!

This version of 'Green Is The Colour' is outstanding!  Rarely have I heard it play with such fine precision and remarkably for such a quiet number has no interference.  Again it is so rare for this track to play so well on a genuine first press.  With only a couple of mega light ticks near the end that you could easily miss I am happy to grade this as Near Mint.

'Cymbaline' is of the same impressive standard and from beginning to end has no interference.  A superb version with only a small number of inconsequential dust ticks.  The instrumental end section cannot be faulted.  Near Mint overall but there are many sections that grade higher.

The percussive 'Party Sequence' ends the side with wonderful clarity and depth.  Mint-

'Main Theme' has barely any static on the intro and continues to play with superb clarity.  As the percussion comes in there is no let up in quality and the remainder also plays as you hope it would.  There is no interference whatsoever and it provides a stunning start to S1.  This is Mint- without question.

The powerful 'Ibiza Bar' is of the same standard and the depth of the audio on this track is very impressive indeed.  There is no distortion, no clicks or pops etc, and fade out has no 'background' showing just how good the clarity is here.

'More Blues' again plays so well for such a quiet number and with only a handful of light static ticks the playback is very 'clean'.  In fact the audio is stunning!  When you think this is one of the first ever first pressings you cannot fail but be impressed by how well the previous owner looked after his records.  Near Mint

The intro on 'Quicksilver' could not play better.  So quiet and yet there is no 'background at all!  The following section is of course so quiet and yet all you can hear is that low level hum of the needle running over the grooves.  The audio is superb!  I am pleased to say this fantastic quality does not diminish and this has to be one of the strongest versions of this instrumental I have ever heard.  With only a couple of light ticks this is easily Near Mint - there is no real intrusion on the super quiet audio at all.

'A Spanish Piece' plays with prefect precision from start to finish and Mint is no exaggeration.  Who needs the minus!

'Dramatic Theme' ends the album with sublime audio and once again there is no interference.  Stunning!

In summary this FINAL UPGRADE first pressing has audio quality that is so rarely found today and especially on such an early 'single stamper' issue.  The clarity and definition of the audio is incredible and for a 'soundtrack' album with so many quiet sections to have no clicks or pops is very rare indeed.  A fantastic version of this 1G/1G first press now over 50 years old!

The Cover

This first press G&L cover is excellent condition with only minor shelf wear and you won't see many better!  They are very difficult to find in decent condition and yet this one has been preserved very well.  The edges and thin pinched spine are 'as new' and only the bottom two corners have a tiny amount of rubbing.  The opening edge has hardly any handling wear and the front cover is extremely clean with only a small number of the usual faint creases around the edges.  The all important 'green west facing' back cover has only a hint of ringwear near the top and no marking at all.  The flipbacks are in superb shape with only a little marking on the edges.  This is a fine example of this collectable cover.

The Inner

The original EMI inner with the 16 LP covers on each side is in superb shape with no side splits and hardly any creasing or marking.

The Labels

As stated they have only the one EMI logo as per the early first pressings and they are in fantastic condition!  There is no obvious spindle wear and it is clear this record has hardly ever been on a turntable!  They are practically 'as new' with no marking or writing.  Could not be any cleaner!
