·       LED ZEPPELIN – LED ZEPPELIN II (SECOND ALBUM) – ORIGINAL 1969 ATLANTIC RECORDS STEREO LP SD-8236

·       ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING

·       THIS IS THE ORIGINAL BOB LUDWIG MASTERING; HIS INITIALS (R)OBERT (L)UDWIG ARE STAMPED IN THE DEAD WAX / TRAIL-OFF VINYL ON BOTH SIDES OF THE DISC.  All the wonderful elements of Bob Ludwig’s trademark mastering style are here: incredible clarity and balanced channel separation, vivid and spacious “ambience” sound, as well as wide dynamic and frequency range of the sound spectrum.  As is almost always the case with Bob Ludwig’s masterings, the Bob Ludwig-mastered pressings of this album are CONSIDERABLY rarer than the regular, non-Ludwig copies of this album.

·       ALSO: TRAIL OF VINYL (DEAD WAX) IS CONSIDERABLY SHORTER ON ONE SIDE THAN ON THE OTHER, WHICH CAN ONLY BE FOUND ON BOB LUDWIG-MASTERED COPIES.

·       COLUMBIA, TERRE HAUTE, IN  PRESSING

·       ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING

·       ORIGINAL RED (ORANGE) AND GREEN ATLANTIC RECORDS LABEL WITHOUT WEA LOGO ALONG THE LABEL’S EDGE AND WITH BROADWAY, NY ADDRESS.

·       THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.

·       ORIGINAL GATEFOLD COVER, MADE OF THICK CARDBOARD (AMERICAN STYLE)

·       ORIGINAL "TEXTURED" (CRUDE FINISH) COVER.

·       THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING

·       CLEAN, WEAR-FREE LABELS

·       MATRIX NUMBER IN TRAIL-OFF VINYL (DEAD WAX) ENDS WITH '-1A/-1A'.  ON SOME LABELS,  SUFFIX '–1' DENOTES THE VERY FIRST, ORIGINAL PRESSING)

·       DUE TO COMPLICATED AND ELABORATE MATRIX MARKINGS IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES WHICH REQUIRE A VERY MAJOR HUMAN EFFORT TO DISCERN AND LOG, WE WILL NOT RESPOND TO ANY REQUESTS FOR A FULL MATRIX NUMBER. YOU ALREADY HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED. SORRY.

(PLEASE SEE THE IMAGE OF THE COVER, LABEL OR BOTH, SHOWN BELOW)

(Note: this is a REAL image of the ACTUAL item you are bidding on. This is NOT a "recycled" image from our previous auction. What you see is what you’ll get.  GUARANTEED!)

When this album was released in November 1969, it marked – literally - the beginning of the new era and the new sound: Heavy Metal. And, while Heavy Metal existed as a genre even before Led Zeppelin II (Blue Cheer, Vanilla Fudge, Steppenwolf) it was heavily beholden to psychedelia and bore a heavy burden of  debt to the previous era’s exaggerations and idiosyncracies.

Not so with Led Zeppelin II. From the opening blast of ‘Whola Lotta Love’ to the final fade of ‘Bring it on Home’, the listener knows that he is not in Kansas anymore. This is a whole new, uncharted territory. In fact, the album makes a clean break even with the band`s first album: on their first album, one can easily hear remnants of British psychedelia (Black Mountain Top),  progressive rock (Your time is gonna come)  urban electric blues (You shook me; How many more times; I can`t quit you),  folk music (Babe, I’m gonna leave you) and other styles the band members were into at a time. However, you won’t find such excursions on Led Zeppelin II:  the album is a monolithic slab of primo metal: an all-out, in-your-face assault from start to finish. Even the ballads exude the spirit of burning Metal.

For its extraordinary contribution to the contemporary music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, songwriters and general public, or for some other inherent quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, show business professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, the legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye, Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice , Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton, Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). ·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions  ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Visible shelf wear noted on the seams and the opening side.

-         Cover has all four corners slightly worn

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1  (front side) and 2 (back side)

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging   (nothing significant).  Yellowing is also noted on the INSIDE gatefold

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (BARELY VISIBLE)

-         The cover has a small razor-like line (cut) on the back panel, as if someone attempted to cut away the shrink wrap with a razor, but inadvertently left the mark on the cover as well. The paper slick is intact and no part is missing, but the razor line is visible.

-         Cover has some tiny, faint writing on its back side (a microscopic price code written in one corner)

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS AND IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
