This is 1957, first LP edition, Flat Rim, “RVG” stamped, Deep Groove, “P” pressing of KENNY DORHAM “Afro Cuban” on the "767 Lexington Ave” labels of Blue Note BLP 1535. Musicians include Kenny Dorham – trumpet, J. J. Johnson – trombone, Hank Mobley – tenor saxophone, Cecil Payne – baritone saxophone, Horace Silver – piano, Percy Heath, Oscar Pettiford – bass, Art Blakey – drums, Carlos "Patato" Valdes – conga.>
VINYL plays with consistent medium-level surface noise (i.e, crackle, static, ?? or ????, relative to the volume of the music/instruments), with pops and ticks (some repeating). Frequent distortion. Though surface noise is definitely present and upfront, the music signal of this LP is very strong, and the powerfully recorded and pressed music comes through boldly. This is one of the classics of the Blue Note discography, now is your chance to hear it with noise for sure, but also powerfully revealed, and dynamically performed, at undoubtedly a good price. No gloss. Many hairline marks, 2 or 3 feelable. (If you can’t feel it, you won’t hear it). The “767 Lexington Ave” labels are dirty and show much wear including copious spindle wear. See photos.
COVER is in bad shape. wear. Corners worn. Seams and spine completely split and taped end to end. Large sticker on cover. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 767 Lexington Ave., New York 21” back jacket shows wear, writing, KJAZ stamp, heavy tape. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. RECORD CLEANED ON ULTRASONIC CLEANER.
