Description

Selected titles from the private collection of a music business veteran are now being made available for the first time. Titles offered by this Seller are one-owner and came directly from the pressing plant, record company warehouse, other label reps or record store unless otherwise noted. 

Grading is based on visual inspection.

Album ships in a 2 MIL poly cover sleeve.

I package records outside the cover to avoid seam splits.

Ballads was recorded in December 1961 and 1962, and released on the Impulse! label in 1963 as A-32 (mono) and later AS-32 (stereo). Critic Gene Lees stated that the quartet had never played the tunes before. "They arrived with music-store sheet music of the songs" and just before the recordings, they "would discuss each tune, write out copies of the changes they'd use, semi-rehearse for a half hour and then do it". Each piece was recorded in one take, except for "All or Nothing at All". In 2008, the album was a recipient of the Grammy Hall of Fame award.

  • This stereo version is on very thick vinyl with the original Impulse label..
  • It has never been played.
  • The laminated paper on board gatefold cover has tight seams and a stiff spine. The mark upper left front cover is from the laminate separating in that one spot.
  • Check out the Impulse catalog titles on both sides of the inner sleeve. It is in mint condition but I have included a soft plastic inner sleeve.
  • Seller acquired this new in his store in 1969. it has been in storage for 46 years.
