One of the hardest to find Jon Appleton albums released by Folkways. As the title suggests experimentations with synclavier, other synthesizers and computers.

Some info on the release: Very rare album from US composer Jon Appleton known for his musique concrete-electronic experiments back in the late 60's and up to today. This one is "Music for Synclacier and other Digital Systems" and was released on Folkways Records (that released also records from Henry Jacobs, Richard Kostelnanetz, Barton Smith, Ann McMillan, J.D. Robb, Vaclav Nelhybel and others). "In deserto" (1977), "The sydsing camklang' (1976), "Zoetrope" (1974) realized at Bregman Electronic Music Studio, Dartmouth College, Hanover (New Hampshire, USA). "Mussems sang" (1977) realized at Stiftelsen Elektronmusikstudion (EMS) using the voice synthesizer MUSSE in Stockholm, Sweden. "Syntrophia" (1977) realized in the Experimental Music Studios of the University of Illinois using material generated on the Synclavier, a digital synthesizer manufactured by New England Digital Corporation (Norwich, Vermont, USA). Not sure of how many copies of this one were pressed, but i can assure you that they weren't many, as this one never shows up for sale, don't lose the chance to grab this one now... 

Jon Appleton is a composer, author and the Arthur R Virgin Professor of Music at Dartmouth College. He has been on the faculty since 1967. Appleton was born in Hollywood, California in 1939 and was educated at Reed College, the University of Oregon and Columbia University. He is a founding member of both the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (CIME) and the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS). At Dartmouth College he serves as the Director of the graduate program in electroacoustic music which combines study in music, computer science and engineering. He is the author of books and articles concerning the relationship of music and technology including: 21st Century Musical Instruments: Hardware and Software (Institute for Studies in American Music, Brooklyn, New York, 1989), Science in the Service of Music; Music in the Service of Science, Computer Music Journal, 1992. In 1993 he taught at the Theremin Center for Electro-Acoustic Music at the Moscow Conservatory of Music and in 1994 he was appointed a Fellow of the Dibner Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1995 and 1996 he was a Visiting Professor at Keio University (Mita) in Tokyo. Appleton has been awarded Guggenheim, Fulbright, National Endowment for the Arts and American-Scandinavian Foundation fellowships.

At the studio of the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris Appleton begun a course taught by Pierre Schaeffer. His friend Francois Bayle suggested he stayed in Bourges, where he found it a luxury to work with multiple tape recorders, a mixer, audio oscillators, filters and other sound modifying devices which could all be patched together. In Stockholm he met a group of pioneering young composers at his own age: Lars-Gunnar Bodin, Sten Hanson and Bengt-Emil Johnson. They were experimenting making music with spoken texts. After listening to some of my early works they warmly accepted him into their group. Through their connections with the Swedish Radio, Appleton obtained a commission to do a broadcast piece called “Dr. Quisling in Stockholm.”. Well known also for his collaborations with Don Cherry and Bob Thiele on Flying Dutchman label.

Condition: Cover lies in excellent condition, would be perfect if there wasn't the trace of a couple of stickers on the front. while vinyl looks to be in very good condition with some spots and marks and plays with surface noise.
