One can say that the earliest music you'll hear in your love will tend to lay the blueprint for the aural style you'll adopt as you'll grow. That may have a lot to do with so many Amazon.com customer music reviews as being based in comments such as "I grew up on this" or "this was MY jam in high school" or what not. Sentimentality aside,on occasion there is something to be said for the music we hear during our developement. For my own purposes this is one of the earliest recordings I ever remember hearing.My father used to play this around the house and when he first played it for me,using it as part of a make believe radio show we made up on cassette tapes,to my young ears I thought it was a comedy sound effects record. One of the reasons for that,as I realize today is this album is ENTIRELY SHAPED by the aural concept of sound in it's more pure essense. However it's "organized sounds" we're talking about here. Don Cherry and Jon Appleton were no outsiders to new ways of producing sound being avante garde musicians but this is something that many people,even the most open minded of critics probably found difficult to grasp in the beginning. This being in the era just after the psychedelic explosion it's easy to see how many avante garde jazz traditions realized that some of the musical styles,going back as far as Africa itself were based in layors of rhythm as opposed to melody and harmony. Either way this highly experimental jazz album will definately bring to mind feelings of excitment and involvement rather then the stale and academic air some experimental jazz seems to get,and mind you this album SOUNDS pretty free form. Hoots,hollars,orgastiac sounds and beeping analog synthesizers play in and out of this like a musical circus. On the other hand it all makes sense when you come right down to it too. Everything is carried by the atypical rhythmic inventions and,honestly this is both futurist and primative all at once,seeing as some of the earliest music's created on the Earth usually had a strong spiritual bent. And if you giggle or laugh a bit,don't be ashamed:you won't be laughing AT this album but more likely (and hopefully) with it because much of it may inspire joy. I'll bet Don Cherry had a hoot making this record as well as put a lot of effort into the intensity of the rhythmic sound scapes themselves. So he'd probably just assume we all had a good time listening to it. All the same this has a somewhat unspoken and tremendous influence on some more modern avante garde styles,such as hip-hop in everything being based somewhat in rhythmic variation as opposed to conventional musical structures.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record has a ►Rudy Van Gelder name, or  his initials (RVG) stamped or hand-etched in the trail-off vinyl (dead wax). On SOME  Jazz labels (Blue Note, Savoy, Regent, Prestige, Impulse, Verve…) this stamp signifies highly professional masterings either done by - or  personally authorized by - the legendary engineer himself.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.   Inside gatefold has some light ring wear as well

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.  Yellowing is also noted on the INSIDE gatefold

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (BARELY VISIBLE) (VISIBLE ON FRONT SIDE ONLY)
