You tended the like the bands that your circle of friends liked and ours liked Hawkwind. We didn't know Camel, King Crimson or Caravan and so when you reach adulthood and compare notes with fellow music lovers Hawkwind are quite often a gap in many people's knowledge. I was lucky enough to see them live on 3 tours from Quark to Levitation and then about 10 years later. Always outstanding live. My Hawkwind collection is incomplete as I tended to avoid albums that where mostly on the live album like Doremi (Machine Head and Close to the Edge too) as that freed up cash for new music. So we start with In Search of Space. Has the gatefold sleeve with oddly enough for these days a picture of Stacia's bracket. Her breasts appear on the cover of Space Ritual (another contender for best live album ever). Then Hall of the Mountain Grill and the outstanding Warrior on the Edge of Time which is probably my favourite Hawkwind studio album. We pause briefly for a catch up with the best of selection Roadhawks. I found out this week that this has not been available for nearly 40 years so it was nearly a rarity! In my head the next three albums are a trilogy even though the 3rd one is by Hawklords. Astounding Sounds would be my other best album contender and then we have Quark and Hawklords. All top albums and great tours. Bob left after this sadly but I feel lucky to have seen them on the top of their form.
