Here is a 1925 Vintage HMV Model 101 Compact Portable Gramaphone. It has the winding handle at the front and the pin boxes on the left hand side of the lid (see photo). It has the original Soundbox No.4 , a speed regulator and manual brake (see photos). The 101 was the first truly compact portable gramaphone.
This is a seriously rare Gramaphone. Model 101 was only introduced in 1924 and most that you see offered for sale are much later than 1925. This can be identified as 1925 because the needle boxes are situated on the left side of the lid as you look at it (see photo). In 1924 they were on the right side and post 1925 they were concealed on the right front corner of the case. There are one or two spare needles.
It is in full working order, with excellent sound quality and no loss of speed when playing. The chrome fittings inside are in very good condition, even the felt on the turntable is in good condition, with just a couple of small 'scuffs'. It comes with three original 78 rpm bakelite / shellac records, dating to around the same date. They are ' My Temptation by the Manhattan Melodymakers, on the Broadcast Twelve label ', South American Way by Guy lombardo and his Royal Canadians, on the Brunswick label ' and an 8" Record ' When it's Moonlight by Killarney by the Biltmore Players, on the Eclispse label '.
The case is in very good condition. The original His Master's Voice label, with Nipper the dog is complete and in good condition, with one or two scratches. It is marked ' The Gramaphone Company Patents Applied For '. The case does have some marking as would be expected of something of this age, but no real damage. The carrying strap is missing, but the fixings are still there (see photo), so the strap could easily be replaced.
I normally start all my auctions at a low price, but I do not want to waste anyone's time by pretending that this is not a valuable piece of history. Therefore, I have set a starting price of £50.
It is also heavy (7.5 kilos unpacked), hence the postal costs. I would be happy for the successful bidder to collect to save on the postal charges.

All parcels to Italy are taking much longer to reach their destination than other countries (up to three weeks and one still hasn't arrived after four weeks). They do seem to get there eventually, so please wait four weeks before assuming the parcel is lost.
