FARMYARD “Back to Fronting” NEAR MINT LP RARE NZ PROG ROCK 1971 POLYDOR
Farmyard - “Back to Fronting” LP (orig. New Zealand Polydor STEREO 2471 003)
Release date: September 1971.
On offer here is an ULTRA RARE original NEW ZEALAND issue of the second album by FARMYARD, which included MILTON PARKER (RELICS, TANGENT), RICK WHITE (RELICS, TOM THUMB, TAYLOR) and TOM SWAINSON (TOM THUMB, QUINCY CONSERVE, REDEYE).
Musically, we’re talking flute-driven progressive rock with a great deal of experimentation and the occasional use of tribal percussion. The guitar work is intense at times and the vocals are highly expressive. The only lowlight is the naff “Me, The Dog, Ma and Dear Ol’ Dad”, which is completely at odds with the rest of the album. I’ve included YouTube links (excerpts) to a couple of my favourite LP cuts below. Enjoy!
