Very high signal/noise ratio as for acetates. The background noise and clicks can certainly be reduced/removed with a good cleaning.

A unique holy grail of this legendary album!
Ziggy Stardust was recorded at Trident Studios in London and this acetate was cut directly from a master tape recording.
Acetates are not like pressed vinyl records. They are made of an aluminium plate coated with a cellulose-based lacquer and processed directly from the master tape using a cutting lathe. They are expensive and fragile, and cutting requires time and expertise.
Three types of acetates exist:
- Studio/Playback acetates, usually cut during the recording sessions to evaluate the song or for the manager to look for a record label or transfer as demo samples to exisitng record company for evaluation/feedback. These often contain alternate versions and usually only a handfull are cut;
- Mastering/Reference acetates as this one, usually cut at the record company for internal evaluation purposes. These sometimes contain alternate mixes; and
- Production acetates, these are cut to produce the stampers/matrices, thus contain finished songs as released and most are destroed during the process.
This 41 years old lacquer comes from a major collection.
Feel free to ask any question.
