Description
VERY VERY RARE Original 1969 Straight Records Nr Mint Un-Played U.S. 1st Pressing of Seminal Double Album 'Trout Mask Replica' by Captain Beefheart!!! Both Discs in Nr Mint Un-Played Condition & Complete w/ Original Picture Inner Sleeves!!! Massively Rare to Find as a 1st Pressing - Impossible to Find in Un-Played Condition!!! Don't Miss This One!!!
You are bidding on a mega rare 1969 Nr Mint U.S. 1st pressing of the seminal 'Trout mask Replica' by the excellent Captain Beefheart!!! Finding the original 1969 Straight Records 1st Press release of this record has remained the Holy Grail for most Don Van Vliet fans. For such a legendary album this is massively rare to find as a true 1st press. Almost 99% of the copies of this record you see today are later represses. The rarity of this record is due to the fact that, upon the LP's release, Captain Beefheart was still relatively unknown, therefore TMR was only pressed in very, very small amounts. It is only in the last 20 years or so, that this album has achieved almost legendary status. This, coupled with the fact that it initially had a tiny press run, has made this a very sought-after record indeed!!! Everybody wants the 1st pressing of this record!!!
Produced by Frank Zappa on his newly formed Straight Records, TMR has repeatedly been hailed as Beefheart’s masterpiece, one of the greatest albums of the rock era. It's usually the only Beefheart album to show up in critics polls. If you have never heard this record before it will blow you away, nothing I can say will prepare you for it. It is unlike virtually everything you will have heard before, at times it can sound like a kids cartoon soundtrack ('Ella Guru'), and at others is can sound the worst acid trip from your nightmares ('The Blimp'), the rest of the time it just sounds, well, totally awesome ('Too Much For My Mirror', 'Pena' etc). You've just gotta stick with it as it is one of those records that has to be listened to a few times before it sinks in to your subconscious and starts to get under your skin. The initial instant response for many (including me) has been to hate this record upon first hearing it. Like say, 'Astral Weeks', by Van Morrison, it is one of those records that at first can be hard work, but is ultimately rewarding in that you will never tire of it. There are so many myths and legends surrounding this record that I'm not even gonna go into them here. You can listen to, and research the history of this record for years and you will still not turn up any solid answers to your questions, but that's a good thing, right? One of the great unfounded criticisms of TMR is that it is disjointed and unfocused, and on first listen this can seem so, however once it all sinks in, it really begins to flow beautifully and seems to make perfect sense in a way that say, The Beatles 'White Album' doesn't. Over-rated or a work of genius? Give it time and you will discover the answer... Can I criticise the record? Sure, the picture on the front shows the mask of a Carp, not a Trout - duh!

The THICK & CHUNKY UK 1st press discs are in stunning UN-PLAYED Nr Mint condition!!! it's as simple as that!!! There are NO scratches, NO hairlines, NO groove-wear and NO warping - Nothing!!! Both discs are in straight Nr Mint condition and are completely blemish free - STUNNING!!! I would have to grade these two discs as a strong Nr Mint condition at the very least!!! Please remember that our records are not over-graded at all! You will not find 2 better 1st press discs than these!!! As you'd expect, the Cool red/orange Straight Records centre Labels are in superb MINT- condition!!!There are NO Tears, NO Scribbles NO Lifting/Bubbling and NO unwanted writing of any kind to the centre labels - they are as close to Mint as it is possible to get!!! Importantly there are NO spindle lines whatsoever!!! The gramophone rims containing the all important matrix are also Mint. The Classic 1st Press U.S. Gatefold Sleeve is also in fine condition but does show the ring wear that blights these (and many other) 1st press U.S. sleeves. There are no other problems aside from this ring-wear and the usual edge & corner wear. There is NO unwanted writing or scribbles etc and NO tape marks etc. It is just the aforementioned normal wear (these sleeves are renowned for ageing very badly). The classic 1st press artwork looks awesome!!! This great sleeve grades as Very Good at the least! Comes with both original poly-lined Black/White Straight' inner sleeves!!! No insert with this one though unfortunately. An absolutely essential (and increasingly rare) 1st Press for any Beefheart/Prog. fan to to own!!! Don't miss this one as these 1st Press LP's NEVER turn up any more, and when they do it is usually not in Un-Played Nr Mint vinyl condition! Please check out our feedback and bid with confidence as this is a NO RESERVE auction with a very low starting price!
Like the vast majority of my collection, this record has been archived in a smoke & damp free environment for the best part of 20-30 years!
All my records have No reserve, a Low Start and No Surcharges!

Postage ... Hazey Jane has absolutely NO hidden surcharges; the price you win is the price you pay, just add the relevant postage, it's as simple as that! We always combine postage so if you win more than 1 auction you save money on postage costs! We will only ship to non-UK countries via Airmail - we do not use surface mail, it is way too slow and thus increases the risk of records being damaged during transit.
A little note about insurance - Please read carefully... If the value of your record(s) is over £30, your invoice will include an insured option. Being the responsible adults you are, it is entirely up to you to take this up - we strongly advise you to do this but will not hassle you about it. You either add the required insurance or you don't. If you do add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will get a refund. If you don't add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will not get a refund. Can we be any clearer? I think not.

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards. If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...
Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.
We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
