I don't really need to go into detail about this LP for those in the know... other than this album is in beautiful shape!

Stargazer is a private press rarity... so rare it's doubtful you'll ever come across this one. Even the Internet seems to have very little on this album or the band. My introduction came from a dealer "friend" who alerted me to his having procured it by hyping this LP as mega rare sike with beautiful vox femme and loaded with synth. Well, as they say... two out of three or three out of four ain't bad... of all attributes I might ascribe to the album, sike ain't one. However,  the vocals are beautiful, truly superb; and there's certainly no scarcity of synth work plus the production is simply outstanding for a private pressing.

As for classification of Stargazer... I've long since given up. Quite honestly, I've never been able to comfortably categorize Stargazer in terms of genre... simply labelling it prog oriented pop seems a cop-out. Perhaps in the future a more astute critic will come forth with an appropriate description. But such categorization is entirely irrelevant to the most important issue... the Games LP is a very good spin.

Lyte, gossamer and whispful, like the intro to Feeling This Feeling, is always my memory of Stargazer prior to a spin. And while such passages are leitmotiv, there is much more to this album. Each track is very well structured and contains a nice touch such as the bass line within Don't Let Me Down... or the faint soul-sister disco aura of the rhythmic A World of My Own. However, my favorite cut is the intriguingly titled and haunting A Need To Be Frail... especially the stirring crescendos.

Stargazer by Games is, indeed, a rarity in many respects. From one off-beat perspective, it is seldom I encounter a keeper for which the opening or title track is not amongst my favorites... and it is even more uncommon for a spin to "recover" from such a condition. I heartily recommend that you not pass should this album ever come your way.
