THE REVOLVER BY THE BEATLES

Revolver wouldn't remain the Beatles most ambitious LP for long, but many fans remember it as their best. An object lesson in fitting great songwriting into experimental production and genre play. Putting McCartney's more traditionally melodic "Here, There and Everywhere" and "For No One" alongside Lennon's direct-hit sneering ("Dr. Robert") and dreamscapes ("I'm Only Sleeping", "Tommorrow Never Knows") and Harrisons's peaking wit ("Taxman") was as conceptually brilliant as anything Sgt. Pepper attempted, and more subtly fulfilling.


The biggest miracle of Revolver may be that the Beatles covered so much new stylistic ground and executed it perfectly on one record, or it may be that all of it holds together perfectly. Either way, its daring sonic adventures and consistently stunning songcraft set the standard for what pop/rock could achieve. Even after Sgt. Peppers, Revolver stands as the ultimate modern pop album and it's still as emulated as it was upon its origianl release.


Up for auction we have the Beatles legendary acetate "Revolver" recorded on July 19, 1966. This acetate is known to be the first full-length acetate for that album. Capitol Records gave this acetate master no. T-2576 and is known to be a proof mono [33rpm] acetate. There looks to be 5 tracks on side 1 and 4 tracks on side 2. The album does not show any signs of warping and is in good condition with minor wear and tear. There does show to be a few minor scratches on the acetate. There is one small flaw , which clearly shows up in the picture. For the age of this acetate we feel lucky to have this RARE first full-length acetate up for auction.

This acetate was owned by none other than Voyle Gilmore, vice-president of Capitol Records, producer of the "Kingston Trio", "Frank Sinatra", "Judy Garland", "Dick Dale" and "Al Martino". Gilmore, under the supervision of George Martin, helped produce, "The Hollywood Bowl" acetate in the mid sixties which was shelved for a lengthy period. It is coming to the collector's world through the family of Voyle Gilmore. This RARE acetate has been in storage for thirty plus years.

This auction has pictures of other valuable items that will be up for auction on our site. They include some of the rarest acetates "The Hollywood Bowl", and also another hot find "Sgt. Pepper". There is also going to be two gold presentation albums by the "Kingston Trio".
