The Beatles For Sale - ULTRA RARE 2nd pressing STEREO
Here it is the very very hard to find misspressed label variant of the Beatles for sale.
I'm a Loser was misspelled as I'm a Losser" and even appears in the UK rare record guide under the Beatles Misspress section.
The Stereo pressing has the catalogue number PCS 3062
The matrix Numbers are YEX 142-1 / YEX 143-1
Stamper Codes 1/RP / 5 MH
No tax Codes
Second pressings are distinguished as follows
- Sold in the UK statement over the spindle hole
- The Gramophone Co Rim Wording
- P 1964 instead of recording first published
The Sleeve
Collectors know how hard it is to get a really good copy of this sleeve as the way it was made ensured that most of them ended up damaged because when the record was inserted back into the gatefold, if not fully pushed in the spine would tear and crease. In addition the front flap is so flimsy that creasing was ineveitable.
WELL NOT THIS COPY
the front has no creasing whatsoever. i dont think I have seen one this perfect on the front ever. Not a blemish.
The spine is 95% flat and is perfectly legible.
Opening up the gatefold reveals an exceptional inner spine, no tears top or bottom, and only very very slight creasing.
the flipback on the right side are perfectly stuck down
The back again is in top condition. On laminate line is visible at the bottom, but this is not a crease it is a raised line of laminate.
I am happy to grade this sleeve as NMINT
The Record
Firstly the labels. they are in immaculate condition. Absolutely no spindle hole wear whatsoever. I searched really hard for any spider lines and the only time I saw one was under direct sunlight. None under normal light. Clearly this is shown in the pictures of the labels. I believe this Lp has been very very carefully handled by the original owner.
The main body of the labels are perfect. Importantly no greasy marks, and I say importantly because it is the rarity of the misspelled label that makes this LP stand out from other Stereo pressings.
The vinyl shines like new, and is perfectly clean. under strong illumination some light hairlines can be seen , but again under normal daylight there are none visible,
I have play tested this on my Rega Planar 3 deck, and can report the following.
My first test is always to pump up the volume to listen for any distortion resulting from worn grooves.I really believe that this is the most important test for any Lp, as if a record has muffled clarity, or a permanant hiss behind it it is ruined, and i'd much rather put up with a few clicks than a distorted sound. Normally this is caused by a damaged stylus or a too heavy weight on the stylus. Anyway this one is perfect. a true Stereo clarity. I am always amazed at the standard of audio clarity on these early Beatles pressings and this one is no different.
Beatles collectors will always have both Mono and Stereo copies because the difference is so great.
Mono/Stereo Differences
"No Reply" There are differences in the mix between the mono and stereo versions. "Words Of Love" The stereo version is 9 seconds shorter than the mono version.
From a near silent run in groove the LP explodes into life with the superb "No reply". Classic Beatles at their best.
There are one or two light pops on occasions, but certainly nothing to mar the performance of this vinyl. I am happy to grade this NM-
