BRIAN AUGER & THE TRINITY ‘DEFINITELY WHAT!’ ORIGINAL 1ST ISSUE 1968 MONO VINYL LP IN LAMINATED SLEEVE ON MARMALADE LABEL


Sleeve Condition: Near Mint. Beautifully kept and free from stickers, tears, writing, damage or defect.


Record Condition: Near Mint, almost unplayed in fact!  There’s almost no evidence of play such as centring marks around the spindle hole and the record plays flawlessly. 


This is a simply lovely copy of a very, very hard to find, very first Mono release of this seminal album on the highly sought after Marmalade label.  To come across both sleeve and record in such exceptional condition is a real find.


There is a CD reissue of this album, apparently taken from an inferior vinyl copy with annoying surface noise present.  This is an uncommon opportunity to acquire a scarce original with none of the defects of the original.

Definitely What! was Brian Auger's proper solo debut album. It's billed to Brian Auger & the Trinity, but Julie Driscoll, who sang with Brian Auger & the Trinity on the act's most popular and best late-'60s recordings, is not present. Auger dominates the record not just with his organ, but also as composer of most of the original material, and as the vocalist. Auger's principal influences are obvious in the songs he covers by Booker T. & the MG's, Wes Montgomery, and Mose Allison, although there's also an odd version of "A Day in the Life" that is bolstered by an orchestra's worth of horns and strings. He gets into a Roland Kirk vibe on the title track, which is the longest, most ambitious cut.
