Hawkwind: Sweet Mistress of Pain
RPS Promo Metal Acetate

Original Studio Sleeve and Hand-Written Label

+ Promo Flyer / Leaflet

Description

This auction is for a two-sided Rhone-Poulenc Systemes 7" Metal acetate of Sweet Mistress of pain as recorded by Hawkwind Zoo, as Hawkwind were then known. This is in itself a very rare Hawkwind track, and I personally only know of one acetate being pressed for each side of the subsequent commercial single release. I sold the other of the pair not long ago. The B-Side is the Flicknife LIVE version of Kings of Speed. These tracks were released by Flicknife in about 1981, please refer to the extract below from a Trevor Hughes Zephyr newsletter for more details. Trevor was very instrumental in getting this early recording onto a 12 inch single release. The metal plate onto which the acetate is bonded weighs somewhere in the region of 30g, making this nearly twice the weight of a typical Flicknife single. Acetates are the rarest form of record, and have the highest sound quality when new. If you are unfamiliar with them, I would recommend doing a keyword search to validate my claims. This is a really superb disc!

The condition of the record surfaces is excellent, retaining most of the original shine. There are no scratches, and only the lightest amount of sleeve wear - if any! The absence of wear around the spindle holes attests to the fact that it has hardly been played - I've only played it once, when I first bought it, somewhere around the beginning of the eighties. The sleeve in in very good condition, with the seams lightly worn but unsplit. I will ship the disc out of the sleeve, in order to prevent it splitting the seams.

Just prior to putting up this listing, I found a mint promo flyer/leaflet, which I can throw in with the disc. One side of it is now displayed below. You can see how the B-Side titles for the 12" single were changed.
