EXTREMELY RARE **COMPRESSED** Pressing featuring Low Number **0020351** with “FREE” Promo Hole-Punch in Upper Right Hand Corner!

When play-testing this record, I was very surprised to hear that this particular copy did not sound like any other White Album I had heard previously. In my years of collecting/selling, I have listened to hundreds of different copies of the White Album. But this particular copy sounded like something I never heard before.

This listening experience led me into a period of three years of research. In that time, I contacted several collectors/historians to gain insight on this very rare variation. While they were surprised to hear the differences, none could give me a definitive answer as to the origins of this particular copy.

To give a better understanding, below I have given a summary of the facts I acquired during my research on this particular copy:

As most Beatle collectors/historians are aware, George Harrison happened to hear the initial US version of the White Album and was very unhappy with the results. So much so that he booked time in a studio to correct the EQ and compression originally applied by Capitol, making the US version most fans are accustomed to hearing.

However, it is also well known by collectors that these “Pre-George” copies of the White Album are typically found with a matrix number “A-28”. As you can see by the matrix numbers of this copy listed below, this copy was pressed with a slightly higher numbered matrix.

Although this copy shares the same characteristics described by those who have heard/owned an A-28 matrix pressing of this record, I am reluctant to officially call this a “Pre-George” copy. However, I can guarantee with absolute certainty that this copy is a much different sounding pressing than the White Album we have been accustomed to!

While I was unable to locate an exact origin of this particular copy, I can assure you that the sound is unmistakably different!

In my analysis of the frequency spectrums of both a standard pressing and this pressing, I came across three distinct differences:

*150hz to 500hz – There is a slight increase in bass presence in this pressing than in a standard White Album pressing.

*1000hz to 2200hz – There is a more compressed sound in this portion of the spectrum than found in a standard White album pressing.

*5000hz to approx. 20000 hz – There is less presence of treble in this portion of the spectrum than found in a standard White Album pressing.

I have attached photos of the frequency spectrums from the sample of “Back In The USSR” from both a standard pressing and this particular copy so you can see the differences for yourself. Please note that both samples were recorded at the exact same levels to ensure an accurate depiction of the differences.

Please note that I am happy to offer a link to sound samples (comparing both a standard pressing and this pressing) to ANYONE who may be interested in hearing the difference.

In closing, let me just say how pleased I am to finally offer this variation of this timeless record to you. I hope this incredibly rare (possibly one-of-a-kind) record finds its way into the hands of someone who will appreciate it as much as I have!

Additional Notes

There is a light to moderate amount of staining present on the front , back and inner gatefold as well as several small, pin-size indentations present on the front cover.

There is also a stamp with the name of a previous owner present on the front cover and left hand side of the inner gatefold and the name of the same owner (written in black marker) on the lower left hand side of the back cover.

There is a light amount of bending present on the insert photos and several tears present on the seams of the insert poster.

BELOW I HAVE POSTED THE GRADING SYSTEM I USE FOR ALL MY RECORDS:

SEALED: Sealed at factory and never opened. Vinyl is assumed to be mint, but cannot be sure until opening.

NM: When I grade something near mint, you know the only thing that isn't perfect about it is that someone actually opened it. There could be a light scuff mark or two from taking it out of the sleeve. The jacket will look like new.

VG++: These LPs appear not to have been played more than once or twice. You can expect to see scuffs or other insignificant surface marks ­ very minor ­ that will have no effect whatsoever on the sound of the recording. Jacket will show very slight, just beginning ring wear. Maybe a little wear in the corners.

VG+: Records in this condition have obviously been played a few times, though they have been well taken care of. You can expect to see a few light marks, but they should have a minimal effect, if any at all, on the sound of the recording. Jacket will very likely show noticeble ring and edge wear and maybe one or two other minor flaws. Anything more will be noted.

VG: These albums have been played quite a few times and although not abused you will see and hear signs of use. But, the music will dominate your listening experience and you shouldn't be overwhelmed by the various vinyl nuances, such as tics, pops, crackles and hisses. You should still be able to sit back and fully enjoy listening to an album in this condition.
Jacket will have a number of flaws, such as heavy ring and seam wear, writing, small seam splits, stickers, etc.

G: I try not to go here, but if it's a rare or exceptionally great piece of music that must be heard, then I'll offer it. But the noise will be very noticeable, and you'll want to find a better copy. Still, the record will be fully playable, and you should enjoy it because it's such wonderful music. Jackets in this condition will have large seam splits, large writing, paper tears, or water damage. But it will still be fully capable of protecting the album inside.

F: I'll never go here on both the vinyl and jacket. This would have to be a case where the vinyl was playable with a bad jacket OR a real special jacket with the record not of much use. You won't see this very often!
