Here is a chance for you to own a very rare Beatles item. What I have listed is the rarest label variation from the Vee Jay 498 pressings.

The Beatles (correctly spelled) - Please Please Me/Ask Me Why on VJ498!

Here's the info:

1. In Bruce Spizer's Beatles book, he lists this version as VJ498.06. Colorband, brackets label/logo with the correct spelling of "The Beatles".

2. Here's what Bruce says:

Shortly after THE RELEASE OF THE "DOUBLE t" ERROR IN THE GROUP'S NAME, Vee-Jay realized the error (and soaring sales), corrected the group's name on the labels, HENCE THIS NEXT LABEL VARIATION WITH THE CORRECTED SPELLING OF THE "BEATLES" on their first 45 !

It is estimated that less than 7,500 copies in total of ALL the label variations of VJ498 were pressed. This includes Oval or Brackets Labels and the Double "T" or One "T" in the group's name. This "BRACKETS" 498 backdrop variation were first printed by Ivy Hill Lithograph Corp. in Great Neck, New York, in January 1964.
The record was pressed by Monarch.

YET, WHAT IS A MOST VITAL STATISTIC is that a review of invoice summary sheets for the first quarter of 1964 indicates that ONLY 1,650 copies of the BRACKETS Label variation were pressed and sold in early March 1964 !!!

So it should come by no surprise that all versions of this record are quite scarce, and these labels with the CORRECTED spelling of the group's name
are few and much farther between the misspelled labels !!

if you have the new version of Perry Cox's price guide for beatles records that was released in 2007, listed on page 71 is a picture of this record.

3. The condition is VG (very good). I have used the Tim Neely Goldmine Price Guide as a reference to grading the condition of the record. There is some groove wear but no scratches. This was well taken cared for.

4. The labels also have light wear, especially on the Ask Me Why side (see scans).

5. Dead wax markings are hand written. Monarch pressing marker in front of 63-2967 a-side, 63-2968 b-side. Audiomatrix is visible on both sides.

6. The reserve is close to the VG cost amount listed in Perry Cox's Beatle book.
