Welcome! Here is a first UK mono press of Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation (Liberty LBL 83154). This was the first Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation album, with a lineup of Aynsley Dunbar, Victor Brox, John Moorshead, and Alex Dmochowski. This is the original mono issue with the coveted two-tone blue Liberty label. Also present is the original mono inner sleeve. This album plays beautifully!
Matrix numbers and mother/stamper codes are:
Side 1: LBL 83154 A//1 ? 420 12 S.
Side 2: LBL 83199 B//1 ? 420 12 2.
Using the Record Collector grading system, what do we have here?
Sleeve: The fully laminated single sleeve grades Very Good-. The sleeve is not signed, but was probably made by Robert Stace. There are typical laminate creases, and said laminate is beginning to lift a little along the spine on both the front and the back. There is light soiling to both the front and the back. There is very minor wear to the bottom corners and a couple of areas along the bottom edge. As is often seen, a thin line of discoloration runs all the way down along the edge where the lamination ends, on both the front (JUST inside of the edge where the record is inserted) and at the top of the back.
Note that the spine has “pinched” ends, correct for a sleeve of this vintage. My camera’s flash casts a glare over some of the lettering, but all lettering is intact.
Vinyl: The vinyl grades Excellent+, with only the most minor occasional crackle. This is wonderful heavy, early vinyl, with a beautiful shine!
Again, this is a mono pressing. This early, earthy British blues stuff sounds GREAT in mono!
Labels: Both blue Liberty labels are strong, with only truly negligible spindle tracking.
Inner Sleeve: This album has its original mono plastic-lined red and white inner sleeve. This inner has some surface and edge wear, with 2.75-inch split along one edge. The name Tony Swain is written in ink on both sides. The plastic lining remains firmly attached to the paper.
