TITLE : SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!!!! (aka THE FIRST RECORDINGS aka THE FIRST RECORDINGS VOL. 1)

FORMAT : LP 

COVER CONDITION : EX very thin fragile fully laminated cover, with upside-down rear graphics & no track list. very clean front & back, slight edge & corner wear, some very minor creases at edges.

VINYL CONDITION : VG great gloss & overall very nice, but a few short needle scratches that at the worst point cause only non-overpowering ticks for less then a minute in the middle of track B3. otherwise just hairlines & minor marks. still a very solid copy & plays great overall, with just some surface noise, mostly between tracks, and likely caused as much by the tiny low-tech pressing as by any condition issues. the green & black printed labels are clean with some spindle marks.

NOTES : extremely rare original 1963 swedish pressing of his debut album. recorded october 25th, 1962, at the main hall of the academy of music, stockholm, sweden. released early '63 on the very interesting & very short lived BIRD NOTES label run by free jazz alto sax player & producer BENGT NORDSTROM (aka FRIPPE NORDSTROM). this was the first lp release on the label, and the first release by an artist other then nordstrom himself. these sessions feature a young ALBERT AYLER (tenor sax) backed by TORJORN HULTCRANTZ (bass) and SUNE SPANGBERG (drums). this 1st pressing was made only in very small quantities, cited as 100 to 200 copies by most sources, and as few as 50 copies elsewhere. only some of the copies pressed included printed labels (like this copy) with others having only blank white labels. these same recordings were first re-issued in 1969 on the UK label SONET under the alternate title 'THE FIRST RECORDINGS', and have since been re-released many times in various forms, and on various labels, due to their historic nature. this, of course, is the real deal original first pressing, with the rare printed labels and correct machine stamped BN 1 A / BN 1 C matrix numbers in the trail-off.

other recordings were made at this same sessions & planned for a follow-up release on bird notes, but only made it to the test pressing stage. two version of the follow-up album were created, one featuring 3 tracks (commonly referred to as THE FIRST RECORDINGS VOL. 2) and the other featuring 4 tracks (sometimes referred to as THE FIRST RECORDINGS VOL. 3). both of these versions were pressed only as white label test pressings, in quantities of only 5 to 10 copies each. we are very happy to currently be offering BOTH versions of these grail level rarities, so please be sure to check our other listings.

- i pack very solid using new high quality heavy weight lp mailers with two (or more) new cardboard filler pads. all unsealed lps are shipped out of the cover, and new inner sleeves & polybags will be added when needed. always willing to double box, etc. as requested, at slight extra cost.
