Various Artists (New Phonic Art / Iskra 1903 / Wired) "Free Improvisation" Deutsche Grammophon 2740 105 (on box) 2563 298 / 299 / 300 (on lp labels), Germany, 1974. Three lps all EX (gorgeous, with only a hairline on side two, which does not affect play); eight-page notes book EX; outer box EX/EX- (only mildest rubbing, and left bottom corner is cleanly separated and has a half-inch piece of clear tape on outer edge there). *** Oh my, this is one of the all-time massive out-sound treasures! Beautiful condition, incredible music, just a total masterpiece. Each of three groups gets a full lp to itself: New Phonic Art (Vinko Globokar/Michel Portal/Carlos Roque Alsina/Jean-Pierre Drouet); Iskra 1903 (Derek Bailey/Barry Guy/Paul Rutherford); and Wired (Conny Plank/Michael Ranta/Mike Lewis/Karl-Heinz Boettner). This is all-exclusive material, and all of these groups are hard to hear these days, and are of course 'supergroups' if ever free jazz had any. I mean, uberproducer Conny Plank and Takehisa Kosugi-cohort Ranta in the same group? YES! NOT TO BE MISSED!
