Smoking garage funk soul rock jam led by female vocals and with psych guitar and flute 'Funky Mama', probably Explosion's rarest single! Flipside is a downtempo soul ballad (male vocal) with vocal harmonizing.
Explosion was a bit of an enigma in Suriname at the time; headed by Curacao immigrant J. Themen and his Suriname wife Martha Bruining, they played funk, rock, psych and other styles that were popular in Curacao then but were hard to sell to audiences in Suriname. They always made sure to include a soul ballad on every single, which got them invitations to play at weddings and other occasions.
And if you're curious to know why there's a sticker across the band name, it's because the labels were originally misprinted to read 'Voodoo Gypsy Sound', which was really another - competing - band!
