Zoe's Shanghai is a band that has continued to make waves in the neo-soul scene ever since their first EP in 2019. No their debut album builds on that across 11 songs of heartfelt sounds. Led by singer Zoe Renie Harris, the group has a dynamic flow and kaleidoscope of moods. Lyrics focus on inner dialogues, relationships and life stories and are all intertwined with hypnotic grooves and proper melodies. The likes of 'Mother' ebb and flow on new jazz grooves, 'Niassam' is a lively broken beat workout with rich percussion and 'Anatomy Of An Emotion' is that bit more deep, sparse and pensive. It's no wonder Gilles Peterson is a fan.
