The village is preparing for celebrating holiday – Khatoba. Nano is impatiently waiting for festive's started. Her friend Maro sadly looks to the road. Her lover Malkhaz went far away a big time ago. Nothing is known about him. Maro has been engaged with captain Kiazo without her permission.
Nano informs glad news to her friend. The meeting doesn't bring the happiness for in-lovers.
Malkhaz is horrified with the information about Maro's engagement. 
Collected people are dancing and singing. Nano leads Maro and Malkhaz into the circle. The piper threatens Maro, that he'll say everything to Kiazo.

II act
Tsangala informs Kiazo about Maro's and Malkhaz's meeting. Kiazo is angry and revengeful drinks the wine. Maro is waiting rivals' meeting with anxiety.
Suddenly battle alert begins. Enemy invades the motherland.

III act
Kiazo demands the answer from Maro. Maro recognizes that she loves Malkhaz. He appears this moment and this sharpens the situation. They are fighting. Kiazo's sabre kills Malkhaz. Maro is mourning over Malkhaz.
